Is what Jest doing wrong? Yes. Should Deshea keep posting about it when the mods told him multiple times to stop? No.

Sorry Deshea, but its a bit hard to feel sympathy for you when you keep doing the opposite of what the mods asked you to do. It's one thing if you made a thread in the hosting section asking for anti-ddos providers or made this post in your BST thread. It's another if you keep trying to make threads in the main section to try to get yourself some sympathy.

onthewayup - Quit having a victim mentality and do something about it, you seem to provide a very in depth service with lots of properties and volume so I'm guessing you either having the ability to automate or the human resources required to setup your wiki network on multiple hosts. Go out and signup for as many as $3 per month hosting packages that you can find across a wide range of networks and datacenters and you won't have this DDOS problem anymore. And they've been mentioned in this thread, but cloudflare is a good provider to hit up and see what they can do for you.

nanexo - You've remained silent so we don't know your side of the story but if you are launching DDOS attacks then thats a pretty immature thing to do over a bunch of wikis. Chances are that you and onthewayup have a large list of overlapping customers who use both services so you're not just fucking with onthewayup, you're fucking with your own customers who have paid for the service and I'd imagine that it's having a negative affect on their rankings as well. Make money, not war, and save the DDOS stuff for 13 year olds who want to boot people off of xbox live.

I've worked with both suppliers and i'd contracted DeShea to do some work for me this month. I've seen some previous work done by Deshea take a hit in rankings (potentially) due to all this BS.

It's one thing attacking a competitor but to indiscriminately fuck all his clients up as well is disgusting behaviour.

@ the OP - this happened to me last October in 2010. the hosting company said it was my fault, but they're wrong. it is THEIR fault for not being prepared for such an occurrence, as a hosting company it is THEIR responsibility to adhere to a strict security policy which should include a protocol that blocks any IP address that repeatedly hits a connection, directory, ip address, port or any other numerous places a particular attack might be directed.

you simply need to find a better hosting company, most likely a private company that isn't something like "host gator".

our situations differ only in that i was operating an eCommerce store, and the system was hosted by a third-party cart company. upon having the issue occur and spending 3 months trying to fix it, and having the company blame us for the entire server going down, blah blah, whine, whine.

any HALF WIT security expert KNOWS how to successfully stop a DDoS attack within 72 hrs, or bring it to a near crawl at least as they strengthen rules and deny IP addresses on a semi-permanent basis.

Your hosting company is SHIT that is why their whole server was taken down.

i am really sorry you forked over thousands of dollars. you should tell the "security experts" you paid to shove it, cause they are frauds, and the hosting company owes you $5k for not having up to date security practices...(this is COMMON SYSTEM / SERVER ADMIN knowledge) they obviously have not employed the correct people to administer their servers and therefor have successfully destroyed your business, so THEY OWE YOU.
