living expenses only, all my businesses are already developed and invested (paid). going forward money in (7+ dedicated servers, domain costs) would be eclipsed by profits out, further investment through R&D or other scaling would increase profits and add to wealth

Are you in Bangkok?

You must be balling pretty hard spending 3k a month in Thailand, most people I know there think 2k a month is extremely comfortable for Thailand.
 
I quit smoking a few years ago. I like to think of it "how many months of living do I have saved up"

No, not in Bangkok. In one of the cheap cities. I'm not balling, but that's just what it costs.

Granted it could be cheaper, but I've opted for the comfort option instead. I could get rid of the dogs, grab a shitty room for $100/month, and eat $1/plate meals all the time, but that doesn't sound very fun to me.

But yeah, house, bills, dogs, groceries, going out once in a while, etc. -- $3000 isn't unrealistic if you want to live with the same comforts as the West, which you will after 6 months of trying to live here without.

I lived in the same city as Matt for a while and I can agree that you can spend that much. One of the things I like about living in a lot of places in SEA is that I never have to look at the price of anything. Ever. With exceptions of cars and shit that I don't care about.

Anytime I go out for dinner, just order what you want. Price is irrelevant, because no matter how expensive it is, it's still going to be acceptable by western standards.

With that mindset, it's normal to spend $3k, but the benefits from that are huge.

note* This mindset really fucks me every time I go to Europe.
 
Just put in an offer to purchase a house, so that nice wad of cash I keep in my purse inside of my pillow is about to be raped.
