How many of you actually have college educations?

It's the person, not the degree.

yup...i got a CS degree and i am working shitty job now. my gf in college who took the exact same course is working in a huge investment bank earning more than 100k a year..degree doesn't mean shit

Be warned, if you drop out of college expect 95%+ of people to call you a douchebag and tell you that you're going to fail and end up being a shit kicker and flipping burgers. Just use that to motivate you to make enough money to buy the burger store so you can give all those doubters a big fuck you and maybe even a job.

I finish my degree this semester. While I don't think that I've learned that much as far as tangible knowledge, I think my character as well as people skills have greatly increased. But as far as needing college to make a lot of money...not the case.

I've thinked that way about two years ago and now I'm doing great with my business and improving myself daily. Dropping the college was the best decision for me otherwise I wouldn't have learned life's secret lesson. Every body who knows me (including loosers who didn't believed that I can achieve anything in life) wonder how i did it??... :)

The main thing you gotta learn is life lesson and i'm early in which loosers get when they are old & sick. By the way, "STAY HUNGRY, STAY FOOLISH" - (STEVE JOBS) :rasta:

i think many still earns a lot of money even if they are not a college graduate. as others says it depends on your capability or ability to do something worth it. but still it's more comfortable if you had finished your college degree, it's a more different experience of happiness.

I dropped out of college. I can't stand formal education. Not saying that's the best way to go, just different things work for different people. If you can pick up books on your own, study and learn things school isn't necessary unless you want to get a job at a fortune 500 company. However you have to love and embrace learning on your own. I'd wager that I have a bigger bookshelf than most. I buy and read ever php book that comes out as well as a lot of different web based books as that's what I'm passionate about. Then you add the marketing, sales, design and the list goes on.

If you think for one second you're not the type of person that loves to learn on your own I'd say force yourself to go to school.

I think it is all about who you are. Some people need college to learn but in this AM industry it is the people who think outside the box that get anywhere. College is to structured and makes you think in one way. I have tried a few times by get to distracted to go any further. I do like taking classes from time to time though to learn a little more.

If you can make money without going to college, then why not? What's the point of going to college? to make money..

Look at Bill Gates for example.. He's a fuckin nerd and didn't go to college (well dropped out) but still. :rasta:

I don't hold any degree and I must make more than some graduated degree students.

Like many have said, it comes down to the person and that person's situation.

But the whole topic is really a sore point with me. Because I don't have a piece of paper that, to me, means that I was dumb enough to spend four years getting the knowledge that I could get much faster on my own, I'm not qualified. That's why I'm self-employed now. When I present myself as the owner of a business, I'm asked for references, not education background.

But for those trying to decide whether to finish college, all I can say is that I can't help but believe that getting that degree would have made my life easier. At the very least, it dang sure couldn't have made it any harder.

You're really paying for the social experience when you go, and I think that's worth it. College seems like its 70% social, and 30% academic. But look at all the industry leaders. They all seem like they've dropped of something, seriously. Bill Gates: college dropout. Steve Ballmer: business school dropout. Steve Jobs: college dropout. Mark Zuckerburg: colllege dropout. Sergery Brin and Larry Page: graduate school dropouts (although one went back and finished for the hell of it). Jerry Yang and David Filo (Yahoo founders): grad school dropouts. I'm starting to see a pattern amongst the people who drop out of something....

College was one of the best experiences of my life. I had a blast all four years and these people are right, being a college graduate is very important socially and psychologically.

go to college to learn, read wicked fire to earn.

a lot of people think of college as a place to go so they can get a good job. If you are planning on making $$$ as an internet marketer, college will not teach you that. HOWEVER, you can develop critical thinking, problem solving, etc.

Bachelors in Marketing here. I think it was worth it, but I am damn stubborn, I dont quit something I start. I might waste 10 of thousands of dollars and years of time but I dont change my mind easily.

Its a charming trait my friends say.

I only use it when trying to think of how big businesses think when consulting with them or competing against them.

Im studying marketing in university.
Last month I got something like $12k and now got a job offer for $45/h so I would be finacially pretty secured.
But I´m still going to go back to school after summer. You never know how long this interwebs-thing is gonna last. Its always good to have some backup-plan.

And btw. its free to study here where I live :)

If you are planning on running your own business or being self employed, college is a waste of time and money. The only good part about college is the social experience. I'm dropping out after this semester is over to see what I can do, if all else fails Im going to a trade school to learn how to do something useful.

Exactly. I'm very interested in learning and gaining new knowledge. As well as meeting new people and having a good time. Even though I don't necessarily need college, I'll be glad that I didn't drop out or didn't go all together. I'm not in it for the job, I'm in it for the knowledge.

Doesn't anybody else have the burning desire to learn something amazing? I'm a physics major going for a PHD in high energy/particle physics, and the more and more I read about it, the more crazy and outrageous things I learn. Some of the things I have told to my other friends and they don't even believe me. I just think that's awesome. I'm getting to the point I never thought I would, I'm actually starting to LOVE going to class, studying, and learning. Here's the catch, I'm not looking to ever get a job or make money in this field. That is unless I end up liking it that much more than IM.

I just hate the excuse: "I don't need to go to school because I'm making a lot of money already"... if you're still thinking in that mindset something is seriously wrong. At this point the thought of school shouldn't be about getting a good job and making money. If you already have money you should be thinking of it as a way to become more intelligent and learn something about yourself and life. That's how I think of it anyway.

The point is, you can't put a price on knowledge.

It's inconceivable to me why anybody would pass up an opportunity like learning.

Nick

P.S. I do understand that college is not for everyone, but I'm glad that the people who figured that out at least tried.
