How many push ups can you do?

Also, pushups are a weakmo test of strength. Burpees, pullups, dips, front levers, flag pushouts, those are the measuring sticks of the strong.

And if you really want to get beast mode:

I can bench 235, but for some reason, have trouble with bodyweight stuff, i'm starting with a personal trainer, so to get some more "practical" strength.

3 times a week, I do 1 set of 30 -> 3 mins break -> 1 set of 50 -> 3 mins break -> close with 1 set of 30... but then again I'm only 165lbs so obviously it's easier for me than for a guy who's 220.

Push ups are cool but you get more muscle growth with bench press for sure.

If you want to increase your pushup numbers, Google "Grease the Groove" or "GTG". Lots of applicable information.

Alternatively, I used the BUD/S Warning Order workout (for pre-SEAL trainees) many years ago to good affect. It's boring as crap after a few weeks, but it works.

The rundown (for pushups only):
(Sets x Repetitions)

Week 1: 4 x 15
Week 2: 5 x 20
Week 3 & 4: 5 x 25
Week 5 & 6: 6 x 25
Week 7, 8, 9: 6 x 30
Week 10 & 11: 10 x 20
Week 12: 15 x 20
Week 13: 20 x 20

At that point you should be able to do 100 continuous pushups without a sweat. After all, most of you have the benefit of higher testosterone and greater muscle mass.

Now- if you want to get better at Pull-ups, the only program to choose is this: Recon Ron Pullup Program

5 sets for applicable number of reps in the chart per day.

Pull-ups are the single biggest mass builder for the back, shoulders and arms I can think of. Pushups may not build mass, but pull-ups most assuredly do.
