Ok, the title says it all.

How many of us have started internet ventures online by starting as a "design company"?

What is/was your company link?

How many of you are still persuing the designing as a main focus?

Are you working locally or just online with it?

If you are not designing still, what online work are you doing now?

I just wanted to ask some questions to get others opinions. I know a lot of people start online as designers, just wondering where youve all came from and where you are at now.

heres my answers:

I am designing STILL.

This is my main focus as of right now. I am working on promoting locally for the first time.

Are you working locally or just online with it?
working mainly online, but starting an offline campaign soon.

If you are not designing still, what online work are you doing now?

I am still designing but also run a myspace resource website which is doing ok for its first couple weeks of being online. I hope to transition from designing to webmaster fulltime soon.

I tried running one for a short period of time.. changed my mind real fast ;)

I started out doing logo designs, business cards, and letterheads. I still do it for side money here and there.

I soon realized the amount of time and hassle of unsatisfied clients was just not worth it.

Then I said, "Hello internet marketing!"

My design business in the beginning & future plans.

I also started doing web and logo design in the very beginning.
I experienced that you have to be patient a lot: you have to run after clients in order for them to send stuff like text, pictures, etc. they want to have on their sites. Sometimes clients were not satisfied and wanted to change things all the time! But I have to say that it was quite easy for me to find clients (= local), maybe that's because I asked low prices for my design!

I think to pick up things again soon besides my affiliate marketing and "outsource" most of the design requests and offer a total package (including internet marketing). One of my other new ideas I want to add is selling sites to potential buyers like "site flipping" (see also thread Jon about "Internet Real Estate"). It definitely helps when you are also experienced in the field of internet marketing. I think that many web designers don't have the knowledge of advertising, marketing, etc. Though many clients also need their site to be promoted and get traffic!! :smokin:

I did too. But clients sucked the life out of me. I took it too personally when I would design an absolute masterpiece, but the client wouldn't like it. It didn't make me near enough money and caused too much stress.

yapp...i started out web designing as well. My old site was here which hasnt been updated in ages http://www.muddesigns.com

Problem is i'm trying to activley get away from it, but all these people keep contacting me for work. Don't really want to turn them down, so I'm looking into outsourcing more and more of it, so i can focus completely on affliate marketing. (If you want some work send me a pm)

I'd rather not deal with clients that much, and i love the idea of making my money work for me and not me for the money. So i'll treat this like an addiction and slowly try to ween myself of the designing aspect and get more addicted to the publisher side of things. rock on.

I used to do design, but now I am a webcam star. Everyone loves watching me slip big yellow long hard ripe bananas into my butthole. :xyxthumbs:
