How much are cigarettes?

So, if you spend $400 per month on cigarettes, about a pack and a half or two packs per day, you'd be able to save almost $650k for retirement in 30 years by diverting the funds to a decent moderate growth fund.

Thanks for the info guys - just needed to get a rough idea for a project.
whoah. Very few people smoke 2 packs a day, and the ones who do probably aren't persuadable to ever quit.
Think about it. There's 20 cigarettes in a pack x2 packs. 16 waking hours/day. That's 2.5 cigarettes an hour every hour you're awake. How many people do you know that smoke that much?

If you're wanting to target the more common smoker talk half to full pack a day.

Add to that the savings you will make on the healthcare costs...

I'm amazed at how much cigarettes cost in the above posts. I whine all the time about paying $7.50 or so a pack for mine (Pall Mall unfiltered -- I have one local place stock them pretty much just for me; apparently it's just myself and 90 year old black dudes who smoke them.) Everything else on the shelf is sub$5 after taxes. I been had rape.

$1 in average in Ukraine, it sucks cause it was $0.25-$0.5 years ago. Do not smoke anymore though

My mother-in-law smokes more than two packs per day and it seemed to be rather common since my sister-in-law does, too. It was an example I used, but I might go back and look at the numbers again. Thanks for the information!

I don't touch 'em but my wife does. Ranges from $4.75 - $5.75 for a pack of camel lights. The grocery store is the higher price and the gas station is the lower.

In Toronto, the grocery stores don't sell 'em anymore, however it is the opposite as far as pricing. The convenience stores have the better prices then the gas stations.

20 pack of Dunhill's goes for about $9.50. 25 Pack for $11. At the Gas Station it would $11 for the 20 pack and $12.50 for the 25 pack.

NY may have the highest prices for cigs, some smokers I know go to buy imposter brands on indian reservations for a quarter of the price though.

I remember being in NYC for the first time last November for ad tech and I thought I would be buying cigarettes for dirt cheap (naieve of me) because they were dirt cheap at a gas station/rest stop on my way to ad tech from Toronto. Boy was I wrong. 20 Pack Marlie Lights was $12, at a time when the CDN dollar was less than US.

My dad was a 2 pack a day smoker. It was pretty amazing, he would light up immediately after his last cig was done and could smoke half a pack in about an hour. He would smoke a cig faster than anyone else too, incessantly puffing it.

Anyone actually ordered online? I looked it up a couple years ago and cartons were still $20-30 through quite a few suppliers.

Of course it's illegal because of the tax issue, but I've never had a cop ask to see the tax stamp on my cigarettes...
