^^Now that sounds like an interesting strategy.

Cheaper to test ads and message than on the CPC model as you have a better chance of getting the impressions needed to work on the CTR. My first adsense campaigns were so badly designed i got googleslapped within 24h and had to abandon the campaign.
I see the point the SEO folks have with spending as little as possible but think it makes more sense to spend some money and much less time, than loads of time and no money.

i use to spend about $300-$600 total on trad. ppc ( google ) depending on how many variations of kws/ads/lps/offers I had.

It depends a lot on how you test, what you test, and how many offers/ads/lp/kws you have though.

In 2 years, I've only entered 3 niches and all have worked out well in the end.

I find a niche, where I know money is being made... and research THE FUCK out of it to the point where I KNOW what is going to work. Which means, I find out everything (I mean EVERYTHING) the "big dog" in the niche is doing and model it making the same thing except a little better. If it loses a little money... I suck it up, work more, and force that shit to be profitable.

I focus on building companies in niches. Product creation, as well as promoting affiliate offers on the backend and what not. I don't even waste my energy with these fly by night affiliate offers. Not saying that doesn't work, but I like the slowly building an empire that can be sold strategy vs throwing up tons of new campaigns on a daily basis strategy. People making tons of new campaigns that is like being a day trader type of thing. To me, that's a unstable headache. lol

Anyways, this is just my opinion on it. You can make a fortune doing either one it's just depends on the "lifestyle" you prefer.

lately im spending around $500 on new stuff., always varies but that just seems to be the point where i get enough data.

I usually spend 3x the payout (making sure I get good spread over keywords and test particular keywords i think are HOT 3x on their own above and beyond the campaign 3x) because even if you start with a say -100% ROI, when you first start there is a ton of room for improvement plus you do have anomalies of people not paying etc when really the average will back out.

If it doesn't convert or so minimal after 3x then I assume that my ideas are too far off from what will work that the amount of effort i need to spend on creativity and redesign that it is too much and move to the next offer.

I voted for 100 dollars because usually I can't afford to spend on testing much more than that. :( Of course, the results are not that accurate but there can be many tests with similar keywords and adwords texts and I need to save my money...

I stick with 3-4 x the payout for a quick first idea of my campaign and the angle I'm using seems to be right or not. Defining the amount you are spending for a test in cash is not that accurate in my opinion, it pretty much depends on the CPA payout.

Just think about it, you cannot compare a test budget for a dating CPA offer with a $5 payout to a finance product with a $60 CPA.

I usually reach into a bucket of money and whatever I pull out, is how much I test with. Kind of like this kid:

Even though this thread is a few years old, there is still some very viable information here. I really enjoyed the read.

For how much we may test a product or service depends on each and every person..their capabilities to invest , for me though not more than 50$ to test a service..:)
