How often do you goto the doctor?

Went to an allergologist two weeks ago, going back two weaks from now and probably starting a treatment after that. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, now is the time to start your treatment. Come May, I start sneezing like a mofo, itchy eyes, tears, and three packs of facial tissue per day

When it's up to me, only when I had an injury(once). I never go for a flu or nothing like that. Don't get checkups on my own initiative. Had to get a few checkups from about 2000 to 2007 for a job I worked, maybe 4 altogether. I'm a stallion and I stayz healthy (knock on wood).

Past like 5 years I've been sick maybe 3 times. My wife is religious about washing hands and using hand sanitizer. I also stopped drinking from the public fountain at my gym, I think that's the biggest change I've made that got me going from being sick several times a year to not.

Also go to the gym 5x a week and run 2-4m a few times a week. I completely stopped taking redline and jack3d. I just stick with coffee.

I do still have some bad habits though. Sometimes drinking a bit more than I should and the nights I don't drink, taking motrin PM. My liver probably doesn't like me. ;P

being blissfully ignorant can cost you. Back in the Summer of 2009 I jammed my big right toe in a soccer game. I did not do anything about it for a month and in that time I walked on the side of my foot with the toe at an angle so it would not hurt as much.

Doing this messed up my right leg and all the muscles in it. Which in turn messed up my gate pattern. Things did not resolve themselves and about a year later I had to start shifting my weight onto my left side which messed up my lower back and left leg.

Now it's almost 2012 and I have seen almost 15 different providers, 3 Physical therapists, deep tissue massage, acupuncture, 5 Orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, other specialists like RA doctors and had MRIs, XRAYs done theworks and I still have not resolved the issue and am still in pain because I put it off.

I am only 24 and most of the doctors I have seen are baffled that this has not gone away.

I for one will tell you to value your health and make sure to get things taken care of as soon as you feel the need to.

Better safe then sorry.

This recovery has cost me 3 years of my youth and 1,000s of dollars to recover and I am still not out of this night mare yet.

So if you are sick don't try and be a tough guy and suck it up and put off seeing a doc. Get your ass up and get yourself checked out.

my two cents......

Dentist 3x's a yr for cleaning and no cavities (Fluoride as a kid). My eyes are 20/20.

I have to go to the local hospital's oncology infusion center every 6 weeks for Remicade infusions (a biological medication). Right now I have a copy of a bill on my desk that my insurance company just paid ($11,831.89) and my copay was $30. They pay this every 6 weeks so it's basically $2,000 a week for my one medication (100K a yr). I take some other daily meds that aren't cheap either (a few thousand a month). It's fucking crazy what my insurance company pays.

The worst part of the medication is that I get the infusions in the Oncology center (cancer patients) and I have sit there and watch people who are suffering (many dying) from Cancer and many of them have their families and friends with them for their infusions. I see patients coughing up blood, puking, passing out from the chemo. But what is even worse is watching their family and friends sitting there with them, it is truly horrible to see. Now if I asked most of the patients at the Oncology center how often that they went to the doctor before they had cancer I would assume that a good number of them didn't go to a doctor until it was too late (late stage cancer).

But today I am really sad because I found out this morning that one of patients (I graduated high school with her older sister) that I sat next to a couple of times while I was there for my medicine just passed away yesterday on Thanksgiving. She was only 23 years old and had cervical cancer. She was bright, beautiful and a lot braver than I will ever be, she really did battle her disease for a lot longer than the doctors thought that she could...fuck, she just graduated college last year and had planned to go to grad school.

The moral of my post is that if you go to the doctors they can prevent/treat a lot of things before they get out of control. Go to the doctors to stay healthy, not just because you have symptoms. Don't just go for yourself but also go for your family and friends that care about you. Yes I know that it sounds very sappy but it is what I have unfortunately witnessed.

I only go to the doc when I'm really sick (fever for days which usually means an infection) or in pain for extended amounts of time. If I've had a pain for more than a couple weeks, time for the doc. I normally let minor aches and pains "work themselves out" and they usually do. No need to run the ER for a sprain or every little cut.

If it's something stupid but extremely painful like a crazy toothache that I just can't function with, I'll definitely go see the doc for some quick antibiotics and painkillers.

Just gotta know your own body.

Worms! God damn worms decided my stomach looked like a good home. Bloody hell, this isn't a very healthy country to live in. That's why I'm always fatigued, and can only stay up a few hours at a time.

Oh well, at least it's minor, and nothing to worry about. Pop a few pills, and 4 or 5 days, back to normal.

Holy shit! I take back my diskish, presumptuous post from before. You have my sincerest apologies.

Good to hear it's easily treatable.
