what makes real money on the web? I don't want to chase down a few bucks a day with Adsense websites. I have owned product websites and affiliate websites but I am curious as to what the big boys on here do to bring in the cash. I know you won't tell me your website but just curious the biz model as Adsense and affiliates can only take you so far.

Before you flame me for being a newbie, I have been developing websites for 11 years and currently do that for a living. Just trying to start my own web biz now that can work for me a little

Check out Grindstone's thread on how he made his first million dollars: How I Made A Million Dollars

It's an old treasure which I'm surprised isn't dug up more often to be honest.

If you need any clarification on it, he's happy for you to PM him

not stupid enough to click on that link but any words of wisdom from the high rollers would be nice. I have been around for a while on here, not looking just to get something for free. I pay a lot of cash on here for link building campaigns but just figured I'd ask (at the risk of getting completely blasted) to see if I could find a way to make some real cash online finally instead of making a few bucks here and there.

A web biz isn't going to "work for you" unless you are developing them, ranking them and collecting the loot without doing any more work. Doing web design for people won't get you anywhere as you will be nickle and dime'd by the indians.

And who says Adsense is peanuts? You can have a nice stable income stream from Adsense alone.

The big bucks are in product development and the physical world.

Well I made around $600/month in net profit on a product website I had (without putting anymore money into it) but I want to build something that will make me $5k/month and up. I don't mind building it but not sure Adsense will get me there. I would think the Adsense websites that pay a lot per click cost a ton to get to the top :)

Replies like this (dick rolled) are all over the board.
Pretty lame.

Lame question, lame answer.

If you want to make money then work.

If you've been working hard and online for 11 years and haven't made money, then you're doing it wrong and should probably spend your time on something else.

If you couldn't make money on the internet in 2005 you sure as hell can't now in 2012.

Mituozo, I have worked and continue working. I guess what I asking is what is the next evolution. It used to be "Start a website and put some content on it, spend a little cash on it to get it to the top and bank with Adsense" Adsense used to pay a lot more. Then it was, "Pick an affiliate and use Adwords and other quick means to get to the top to make some cash". That really doesn't work so well anymore and is not paying out that much when you do reach the top.

So if one new way to make cash is to pump and dump, what am I pumping? :) If there are any other long term strategies or ideas I am just trying to figure those out.

By the way, I have worked hard for 11 years and that is how I have my job. I want to build a business though and not just have a job. I am sure those on this forum can relate.

I missed out. Im a idiot. I WILL try to make money today. Fucking Obama is younger than my dad and if he can be prez then I can be a dude making money on IM. Already have a day job. Want more.

You said you already have a product website. That is where the "real" money is. Building a strong brand in an evergreen or trending niche is what will make you rich. Treat your customers like gold, and all of a sudden your business is worth way more than just a multiple of revenue. A larger company may be willing to buy up your brand for an inflated price, or you can continue to run it and innovate with new products and tap into your customer base again and again.

EDIT: You are only make $600/month with your product? Either you chose to target a tiny market (dog snuggies), or your website converts like shit. How are you driving traffic?

Hey Finance, I have done a couple of those partner deals. I don't mind those if the idea is good enough. Still takes cash to get it ranked and known though no matter what the website.

Hey Paper Chase, I regret to say that I sold the business for 1 years' worth of revenue. I regret it now. I will do that with another product sometime if I can find the right supplier to dropship.

Some of us make more than a few bucks here and there with Adsense websites, and while it may not be the most profitable model - it has got to be the easiest. A website sponsored by Adsense does not have to be an MFA.

Honestly, I have advertisers court me to run them directly vs. them placing adsense on my sites. Judging by what they pay for leads or sales, I am guessing their motive is to save themselves more money and not make me more money. But it depends upon the niche and the website.

So I agree that you are asking the wrong question. What is the problem...no coversions/no traffic/etc.

Or do you just want a bunch of people encouraging you to sell their products so you will get rich?

5k a month isn't big money...its enough for a single person to live of a web project rather than a real business that can hire employees etc and make you rich.

Selling subscriptions, scaled ecommerce, saas, all sorts make big money. Usually it involves something where a customer or business pays you rather than advertising unless you think you can scale.
