I live in an apartment complex and just got my internet/wifi set up. The network has a password on it, but what are some other (free) ways to secure it?

1) Make your SSID hidden
2) Turn on MAC filtering. Only input your computers and other devices you want to connect MAC address in the allow list.

I named my network "virus". Hell, I wouldn't try to do anything to a network with that name.

Yeah, always use long random keys, like 64 chars for WPA2.

This is pretty cool, too (requires a bit more resources):

If one access point is good, 53,000 must be better.

Black Alchemy's Fake AP generates thousands of counterfeit 802.11b access points. Hide in plain sight amongst Fake AP's cacophony of beacon frames. As part of a honeypot or as an instrument of your site security plan, Fake AP confuses Wardrivers, NetStumblers, Script Kiddies, and other undesirables.

All humor aside, this is the correct answer. An intruder would have to (a) guess the name of your network and (b) crack the network password and (c) find your MAC address and spoof it. Aka nearly impossible.
