.htaccess 301 Redirect Help

Try to 301 URL's similar to this:

redirect 301 /index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=181 /

It won't work I think the characters in the old URL structure are messing it up or something. The website is static all .html pages now if that makes a difference.

(/) in the 301 is the index or home page which is where I'm tying to point most of the old pages at.

I still get the 404 Error page not found just as if there was no 301 in place.

Tried that and it didn't work but thank you. Anyone else have ideas? FYI 301's are working with URL's that are not structured the way the example above is.

ahh fuck put the full url where it says yoursite . com
