I got 40mbps down, what should I do?

I don't remember what my actual plan is but I just ran a speed test and I'm getting about 25up/4down through my VPN half way across the country so I can't complain.

I fucking hate you so much right now. Time Warner Business Class is horrible. Expensive, slow...God I hate them.
We're seriously considering getting everyone their own DSL line in the office if we can get out of the contract. The speed would be about the same, price would be a fraction of what we're paying.

Really I'd even prefer hiring people to stand outside, physically print off our packets, then run them over to an ISP to be entered into a console manually. It'd probably be faster.

I finally got their "fucking absurdly priced upgrade" and now get a whopping 8.95 megabits(1.11 megabytes per second) downstream and .93 megabits(119 kilobytes per second) upstream.

IIRC you are in SD? Can't use cox? I rock 30mbps with one of their cheaper plans.

Remember, that 40mb is BANDWIDTH and gets SPLIT between ALL devices you use that access the internet over that connection. You need more BANDWIDTH to maintain that speed of 40mbps when multiple devices are accessing the connection.

So, if you have your TV, a Laptop. and a Desktop Box using it you've now got around 15mbps DL per computer since the TV will usually use quite a bit of the bandwidth & speed. Especially if you're watching something On Demand. (At least here with FIOS that's how it works for me.) That is if you have all three on and accessing the network.


Yes, with the TV off and only one device using the connection you will/should have that 40mbps DL.


So, if you have a lot of devices using the connection you need more bandwidth because it will throttle down.

Our consumer level broadband fucking sucks, but we've still got some of the fastest/cheapest servers and datacenters in the world.
The more I buy internationally the more I appreciate the difference.

I absolutely hate my home internet! I pay $90/Month for 18 down and 3 up with a 20GB Monthly Cap! Fuck Excede/WildBlue but I live in a remote area of western PA so its Satellite or Dial Up. I hit my cap a week into my billing period. After I hit my cap my shit is so slow I can barely watch YouTube.
