So i was messing around on G analytics today and i see the traffic for one of my main keywords has halfed over the past three years despite the internet population more than doubling (at least?) . So the only conclusion i can have for this is that people are getting more used to going straight to the major brands sites rather than searching. I think we have seen this already with the likes of amazon et al, eg people dont search for DVDs/cds now, they know were they can get them cheapest.

So im thinking about this keyword and the traffic im driving to my affialite and i must be sending them over a 100 new customers every month. Now this is high quality traffic that converts and whilst i do get paid well for it, am i not just building up there brand at the expense of my own? How many of those people i sent who converted are gonna hit up google for the search term next time they want to order? They are just going to go back to the brand site, and thus the brand could have a lifelong customer for the price of 5% on one sale.

So my question is have any of you guys given up being an affialite to actually start your own brand/site so you can cash in on those return vistors? Or am i over-simplifying the situation and how easy it would be to run the whole operation and market at the same time. C
