I haz made puter

Nice job! The last one I built was similar to an alienware machine, but since then I have really only used my laptops. Maybe I'll have to bring it out again and update it!

pretty sure those results are in regard to hackintosh (typical pc people trying to run apple without paying for the privilege).

You really drank the Apple koolaid, did you?

As much as I like their products, at the end of the day, those are computers.
They'll have the same problems as other machines.

I'm not sure how much your trying to spend or anything...but this:

GeForce.com - Get the Most Out of Your GPU

is a really kickass build for under $600. I would recommend a better processor honestly, but its a good read for an easy and cheap build. Although the comp is a "gaming computer", some people don't realize that a "gaming computer" really just means a badass computer. You can also take $100 off that build if you already have windows.

Might be a start, I wouldnt mind spending like 1600 on a build.

I guess what I could ask is..

1. whats the best cpu/mobo on the market right now for speed and load. Wont be gaming but I dont want soemthing that will take forever to load Adobe products and tons of Firefox tabs.

2. best ssd

3. best memory

Ill prob be running win7 with virtbox of linux and maybe xp

Hahaha...

1. Hop on a plane and fly to Switzerland.
2. Buy beers for emp
3.. ??
4. Enjoy new computer

I made this beast last in x-mas of 09, not sure if I should start upgrading yet. This thing was my dream machine. Spent about 3.5k, +1 for business expenses

Velociraptor 300GB 10krpm (primary)
Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB 7.2krpm (secondary)
Mushkin Blackline 12gb Ram
Intel Core i7-960 3.2ghz
corsair hx 1000w psu
x2 radeon hd5870
ASUS P6T7 WS motherboard
LIAN Black Aluminum Case (this thing is a fucking monster)

To everyone asking where I've been: working. What you been doing? ;)

eLiquid, this is a great start: AMD Six Core 4.0GHz Overclocked Barebone PC - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO Mobo, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T, 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, Cooler Master HAF 922 Chassis, ULTRA 750W PSU, CoolIT ECO A.L.C. Liquid Cooling at TigerDirect.com

Good price, got almost everything you need. Just add harddrive(s) and some beer and time.

For my machine, and first build, once I had all the part in front of me, it only took about 2 hours to assemble. Then three days to figure out the gremlims were a bad mobo, ugh.

That's something that I learned you may run into. Bad components. And apparently mobo's, and PSU problems are common enough that the manufacturers don't even blink at replacing them. Common probably being 1 in every 1000 or so produced. I hit the jackpot and got that one. :)

Right now I'm on a from-scratch PC I did in February. Shit is fast.

*i7 2600k CPU @ 3.4ghz overclocked to ~4 Ghz (Just fans, no risky water)
*16 GB DDR3 memory
*2 x 30 GB OCZ drives in raid 0 set as C:\ (Best speed trick online)
*1 TB Barracuda on 6 GBPS set as D:\ (Used perhaps 1 gig of it)
*64 Bit Win 7... SO much better than Vista.
*Chrome instead of Firefox
*Old, ugly case that a robber wouldn't think is my speed demon pc next to the 4 others....

I used to only do laptops, and I still have one, but this thing is so much faster that it's like comparing an iPad to Deep Thought...

eliquid,

Go ask these questions at tomshardware.com, not because I'm trying to be a dick but because you'll get a way better response.

I just put together a new build myself. I'm about a week in using this machine. Last one was a couple years ago and the slowness finally caught up.

Built for a little under $1,200 (add some misc stuff like Artic3 Thermal compound and a DVD burner drive)

SUCK IT MACTARDS

CPU / Mobo - $400
(on sale combo at Microcenter, saved like $100+)
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.4 GHz
Asus P8P67 R3

Case + Power Supply - $170
Cooler Master Storm Scout
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series 650W

RAM 16GB (4x4GB)- $200
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333
I originally bought 8GB RAM for $110 - then newegg sent me a newsletter with a coupon so I bought some more, for a total of $200 for 16GB

Video Card - $249.99
MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

Hard Drives - $125 ($63 x 2)
Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

LOL @ Poison's mac trolling :)

I recommend you avoid the barebones kits, they are convenient and a little cheaper but usually there is a big crappy sacrifice that comes along with it. Just my 2 cents on that. I built this machine a couple years ago now but it still runs Crysis great :D

It is pretty rewarding and a great learning experience. I didn't know shit about hardware before and now I feel pretty comfortable. Spent around $1500 including monitor.

Newegg forums and learning center are good places to figure it all out if you need help too.

If you like wasting your hard earned cash on computers, feel free to keep buying Apples.

Just built a xeon server with 8 TB of storage, 8 gigs of ram for approx $3000. Buying a similar setup thru Dell would have been close to $8000.

And if you hate wasting time, buy an SSD today and Win 7 64. I never thought I'd see the day where Windows would boot in 15 secs.
