I have a little campaign going on the content network. I wanted to test a lower bid to see if I could still drive traffic. Instead of ".05" I put in ".50". Pretty high traffic keyword. Check back 30 minutes later and I'm out $220.

Moral of the story, don't be an asshat. I wonder if there's any chance of google understanding the mistake and refunding my cash. I seriously doubt it.

440 clicks in 30min? if you're not in a VERY highly competitive niche you might be able to file for click fraud and have it refunded.

You'd be surprised what kind of traffic this keyword pulls.

[Edit:] When I run a content campaign, I set it up for search, but keep the bids below the fold on search, and they're usually inactive due to QS. This way I can see which specific keywords are converting, and I still suck at figuring out CPM bids, so that's just the way I do it and it works for me. So when I bid the .50, I was hitting #1 spots for search. That's where the traffic came from.

Sorry about that.

I just got back from the grocery store and spent that much, went over budget, and was just thinking the same thing as the title of this thread. But at least I got some Cookies N' Cream Ice Cream and some burgers for the family!

I know it's an off topic brain fart, but groceries are really high! I have never broken $200 before.

That's nothing. I pissed away $2k in 4 hours when I was pasting to adwords editor a comma was misplaced and made the bid $20 and got 2,000 clicks with avg cpc of $1.

Ouch. Did you try to contact google and work something out. For me losing a couple hundred bucks really hurts, 2k would crush me.

I've come really close to that before, too. Google should have an option to have a warning box popup if you put in something over 50 cents.

Same shit here with the adwords editor. I ended up with minimum bids of either $5 or $10 and blew through about $300 in 15 minutes .

Google's delay in reporting cost us like 10K one day. Did not expect that much traffic.

Moral of the story is to set the budget so you dont get screwed
