So, why don't you register the .net/.org/.co?

Unfortunately, most people forget that domainers have price freedom. Groupon paid something like $325,000 for the .com, remember?

No. Happens all the time when u have vc money and u already spent tons on branding ur .net. Should always acquire when in stealth. Even topix was acquired for premium and one other I remember is newsvine. Anyway I alway dickroll domineers who Whois spam me on my .orgs

Its cause they know that the person asking the price will try to cut the price down, so they often aim for a very high price first.. but most often they will settle for just 1/10 of the price they quoted first

since you have not blurred out the domain, i can say it's not mediocre at all.
why bother contacting the owner if it's mediocre?

the asking price was not high for it considering an end-user would be buying it

The price may or may not be right for that domain. But domains are valuable for a startup...

Here is a something from a Fred Wilson (a VC and investor in most top web 2.0 companies including twitter, etsy etc .. ) about domain names..

We used to advise companies to spend $10k or less on a domain, then we upped that recommendation to $25k. We recently upped it again to $50k. I suspect domain prices and pre-money valuations of newly launched startups are highly corrrelated.

A couple months ago I was trying to buy a domain off some dick on Godaddy. Anyway, this guy set the starting bid at $100 so I bid that. Then he counteroffers $250000.

For the domain it was, L O L @ that offer.

Well, despite the fact that he had the opening bid set for $100, I'll do that if I get a $100 offer on a domain that is clearly worth several thousand. I hate low ballers just as much as the OP hates people who ask for too much.
