If the republicans were smart they would use this opportunity to turn some of that "OMG U RACIST!!!" shit back at the dems.

Bet your fucking ass the libs would be doing it if the shoe was on the other foot. I mean granted, the guy is a total dipshit and he probably is a plant from the repubs, but it's still a nice opportunity.
Hell who knows, maybe the dude really is legit and everyone is shitty on him. Maybe he really did do it all legit and now people are calling him names and being cruel to him. It's obvious he has some sort of mental issue but he seems like a fairly nice guy...except for that weird sex charge that's pending.

No, we liberals hate all dumb people. You know why? They're dumb and should be sweeping floors, not leading the country.
Because there are costs incurred by the city/state/country to have people on the ballot. $10k means the candidate is serious while ensuring taxpayers aren't burdened by crazy people running for office with no campaign.
It's a retard filter (but like condoms only 99% effective). But if you think it's not necessary, take a day off from work and go the city council building of the closest good size city and watch the council and various committees work. Usually these meetings are open to the public, and hence draw the most worthless, (usually) unemployed, political gadflies that show up day after day to harangue the local pols for nonsensical shit. Dallas has some real pieces of work (including a guy who used to come in wearing his "slave chains"). If it was free to run a lot more of these are the types of idiots would pile on the ballot, and election time would just be a bunch of unqualified morons spouting untenable populist instant gratification bullshit on a national scale. You would beg for some kind of vetting mechanism.

As someone who has been about as close to the admissions processes of top colleges as possible, I can tell you that not everyone getting into Harvard is one the top 5,000 smartest 18 year olds in the U.S., not by a long shot. And it is not too much of a stretch to assume that the #1 advantage for George Bush in the Harvard Law School admissions process was his undeniably powerful lineage rather than his less than impeccable intelligence. Well, it's not fair for me to comment on his intelligence, but I think I can safely say that his ability to run a country is lacking at best.
