It's not just about being poor. It's more about being technologically challenged.
My Aunt & Uncle just had their only child move to Bangkok to study some computer course. Once he left, they heard from someone that Skype is an altogether cheaper (read free) alternative to regular phone calls.
So my Uncle went ahead and fired up his son's computer and got himself an internet connection. They were happy with IE6 and the likes of it and were soon overflowing with malware.
When I was at their house recently, I had their machine formatted, installed an anti-virus and exposed them to firefox.
Apparently, they didn't like the upgrade and had some next door kid fiddle with their computer in order "to bring it back to normal". This guy cleared all their drives in his glowing attempt to perform a clean format.
Five days down the line, they call up my house to speak to my dad on how I fucked up their computer. Seemingly, they somehow blame me for their data loss. And now are happy with IE6 - the default XP browser.
