Lots of good opinions. Like I said, we would be doing this for her career and not for my benefit. I dig the city and all, but for that budget I can buy a house near/on the water here.

Hell, just tooling around on CL for homes to rent and buy near where I live now I found this:

WATERFRONT home with GORGEOUS views, boat ramp, and dock

That makes it VERY hard to consider how little $3k per month gets you in NYC.
