I've been mulling over a bunch of ideas and dilemas that have been bugging me about WF and how to change it or how to make it better. Well, instead of me being the idea guy here, I'd like to know from you guys, the members, if you could make changes to WF, what would you change or take away?

I'd love to hear what you guys think. If you have any ideas, share them, and be as detailed as possible. Please also keep it serious. Would you add or change any section topics? What do you think we should do to make it better? Be as honest as possible. I'm open to just about anything just so long as it's realistic.

I'll start it off..

I was told by a member here to change the layout a bit and add section spacers, sorta like DP and SEOBH has. It seems like a good idea, but I don't want to get TOO organized. Thoughts?

I like the organization as is...its unique and less cluttered than DP, etc.

As for a suggestion, how about we open up the Education Center and Loyalty section to any member who has X posts (spam should be detected by the staff long before this limit, assuming that the staff is doing their jobs ;) )

Put all tutorials in one place, not in forum.
Add design and coding sections.
Make it black/red/white. (white background on text)

Honestly I love the forum pretty much how it stands now, what I would do though is get the top widgets finished up, the market, directory, statistics, ect...all working.

As for the member loyalty area and the education center opening up to people with X amount of posts, I think that might be a good idea however, If that were to change I would say at least 1000 posts before getting access to those areas.

I know a little while back you were talking about a staff section/Guide section where we can all get together to toss around ideas and to share our information, keep track of shit, things like that, a private section, I would include that as well.

Other then those little things though I cant say much more, if I think of something else I'll be sure to include it here.

YOU SHOULD BAN ME BECAUSE I AM AN ASSHOLE

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHA

UUUUUUUUU SHOULD COMMIT SUCIDE!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I would delete those none working buttons at the top.

I would kick out everyone who hasn't made a post and make the forum unviewable to those who do not register.

I would get rid of the AIM checker spam below every single thread.

1,000 posts seems a bit excessive. Perhaps 500? But I definitely think it should be high-ish. With a minimum rep. standard as well. I think this will all but keep the stupid "How do I make moneys on internets, plzzz" and spam posts out of those sections.

I think 2500 posts. If you got less than 2500 posts. You got no dedication.

I agree we should keep out the "how do I make money on the net" monkeys but when you think about it 1000 posts is not all that much (Maybe a comprimize of 750 I think 500 is way too low), that combined with a decent rep should be enough to keep the private sections clean and on topic.

The downfall I see with doing something like this is you might get a whole wack of people posting a hole bunch of nothing in order to get to that 1000 post limit, this might get them a neg rep by doing so and that should eliminate those from entering in on the private sections, however you might end up with a few clever ones that will post nothing really informative and still get a good rep.

I was just about to post that :(

Jon, I would be more than happy to offer my services as a coder on those.

I think that any limit, be it 100 or be it 10000, will encourage more posts. Don't set the bar too high or too low. Too high a standard means less meaningful posts, and too low means more quick and undetectable (in time) spam. 1000 sounds reasonable, but keep this in mind ;)

Couldn't agree more. However, I sent in a Guide application twice (one via email, one via PM) and didn't get accepted or denied, and the position is still unfilled, so my opinion really doesn't mean much on this (yet?) ;)

I would rather see this go with rep based instead of post based. Doing it based on number of posts excludes people who don't post a lot but make high quality posts.

I've found on other forums that an added chat-room can help with both finding ideas and building a stronger community. Making it so that you can see a display of who's in the chat-room right now on the top of every forum-page would then help create more participation. I've never seen this on an affiliate forum, but I've seen it used on a porn-webmaster-forum (which is a similar thing) with much benefit. I think it's worth a shot.

Yeah I thought about that too. One way of getting around that is to put a minimum character limit for posts, like a certain dark colored hat forum I've been to a time or three. :rasta: But that can get annoying.

And if 500 is way too low, then hell, I've got to get to posting! haha.

I think I remember jon saying that he wanted to keep the forums as open as possible, but I think that having these private forums would encourage more and better posts on the open parts of the forum by good posters that really want to "prove themselves" to get into the private forums. Modeeration would have to be pretty tight, but that's never really been a problem that I've seen on WF. I'd always volunteer to flag shitty posts by shitty users. I'm sure there are plenty of other members and guys with badges to help the mods out wtih this as well.

Jon,

I certainly don't want to sound overly critical, because WF and your blog have both been invaluable resources for me. And as I fellow idea-man and brother in ADHD, I know that keeping your mouth shut is sometimes impossible. I often think that if I share an idea it will force me to take action on it, since my name and rep are on the line. Unfortunately, this tactic doesn't work for shit. At least, not for me.

What I'm getting at: my least favorite part about WF is the false promises. I was personally most excited about the Statistics section. Or really, anything on the top bar...

I think the layout is fine. Too many categories and I end up reading a lot less.
