I need help..

Anyone know of a good way (aside for telling me to get some sleep - wiseasses) to kick this crazy Insomnia stretch I've been having for the last month or two. It's never been this bad. Usually I can stay awake for 48 hours and then crash and be back onto a normal sleep schedule routine, but lately it's gotten so fucking bad that I'm able to stay awake for 3-5 days straight, and yeah, I'm exhausted, but I still can't fall asleep, or even stay asleep for more than 5 hours at a shot!! I have no idea why either. I have nothing bothering me, stress levels aren't higher than normal, nothing bugging or irritating me in my personal life either. It's not even that I have some crazy thoughts or worries going on that prevent me from falling asleep. I just.. can't do it!

Any advice would be much appreciated. Any home remedies or advice too. I'm willing to try just about anything EXCEPT for sleeping pills (I'm pretty against taking drugs). And smoking pot keeps me awake too, so I can't even do that. Ugh!!

I myself had to break down and go the pill route. I mean sure you might drive your car in a zombielike state but isn't that worth a nights rest?

Cut back on the Adderall and caffeine for the day and go for a run outside to force fresh air through your system. Take some time away from the computer (difficult, I know) for the day since overuse messes with your biorhythms a bit. Working your muscles with an invigorating run, cutting back on stimulants, and breathing fresh air will have you sleeping like a baby in no time.

Mate tell me about it, since joining the forum it seems my sleeping patterns are totally fucked. I blame you Jon.

Im finding it hard juggling going to work then going to the gym then workin on my sites till late then doing it all again. Fuck i just wish i could just fast forward 6 months to when i think my online income can replace my offline income then i can maybe get some sleep.

I am usually a good sleeper too but since getting back into AM this year its gone out the window.

Anyway be interesting to see what people have to say helps them.

Peace.
Ajay.

It's all about the strain that you smoke. I acually use medical marijuana for the main purpose of insomnia. If your feeling adventurous and willing to try this again, make sure you get a strong indica such as any kinda kush, itll knock you right out:sleep:

Oh yerh did i mention iv taken up smoking again.... fack!!!!!!!!!

Something about watching the smoke get sucked into my pc and blown out the back......

From what you're describing, it doesn't sound like plain insomnia. It sounds like a hormone imbalance, specifically testosterone. Get a blood test, low testosterone is a side effect of diabetes (and quite a few other conditions).

Melatonin. Over the counter, cheap, and it works. All natural. It knocks you out like a light. i ran out a few days ago, and I'm not dependent on it. That and a bowl toke before you go to sleep will put anyone out.

Jon, i had it BAD when i was addicted to warcraft.. yes, i know... warcraft.

I agree with Barman, the best thing aside from prescriptions is Melatonin, worked for me. I got a liquid kind that you put under your tongue and it makes you sleep in 30 mins and your fine. Also get valium, but i use it now only when i have to go food shopping, or to the mall. The melatonin doesnt make you feel like shit the next day though so its good.

It's because your body is resting all day in that expensive computer chair. Take a few hours a day to do some physical activities. Go for a run after dinner, join a rec. league (I know there has to be some pick up hockey around there), ride a bike, even taking a walk helps (take that dog out for some fresh air!).

I also read before bed, makes my eyes tired. Stay off the computer for an hour or so before you lay down. It's tough to get out of work mode, but if your mind is at ease it sure is a lot easier to fall asleep.

Good luck, insomnia sucks. I would try the above advice before going to pills, I wouldn't personally want to take pills all my life to fall asleep :)

Ya melatonin is what I use when I really need to get some shut eye.

I also use the method you mention in your last sentence (work PC gotta be stealthy) Problem is that I rarely wake up on time the next morning if I do heh.

I go with Melatonin too. The problem I get with it is every once and a while it'll back fire on me and I'm wired for the night. When it works, it works well.

Use to take Tylenol PM (before I knew about Melatonin) and it made me drag all day after.

Melatonin helps me a lot.

I also drink two glasses of wine right before bed while catching up on some reading - the combination of the three get me right to sleep in an hour or so.

Smoking also helps me - but lately I've had some paranoid dreams if I smoke too soon before going to bed so I'm trying to phase that out more.

I also try and work out for an hour or so a day - after sitting at a desk for 8-10 hours straight I feel disgusting and have way too much energy.

When i used to use ritalin and adderall in college it kept me awake for hours and hours (pretty much why i used it...) - don't know if you can, but I'd try to cut back on that after late afternoon.

I've suffered form the same thing for years and go through my natural twaek patterns.

You need to go to a doctor right away and get something for the immediate problem, FUCKING SLEEP, with some pills just to get rest. Then find out the underlying issue and try to fix it.

I workout 1 hour a day, smoke only the best Kush, only when I need it (stress or anxiety) and I turn off the computer 2 hours before bed. That combo seems to help.

I think you have computer tweak syndrome and you need to ween yourself off slowly.

First of all, I know not what you speak of. Sleep is my best friend. Maybe you just need three todlers in your house?

But seriously, have you tried aromatherapy? Lavender is extremely relaxing (and yummy!) - you can get a lavender pillow, or get an oil warmer (which is really just a dish with a little candle under it, usually) and stick a few drops of essential oil in it.

What about something like chamomile tea? Add some warm milk to a cup of chamomile tea and you should feel pretty good.

And what about nicotine - isn't that a stimulant? How long before bed do you stop smoking?

I have a feeling that you have no idea how to sit still and that your brain is in overdrive 24/7 just because that's how your brain works. :D In any case, I can see how it would be hard to get to a state of sleeping for you.

I hope you get some relief soon!

Laura

The best thing to do is to turn off your computer at least 1 hour before you go to bed. Staring at the screen keeps your brain from being able to shut down and get into sleep-mode.

I know you said no drugs but I have to agree with everyone that melatonin does work well. It's an all natural supplement, so not quite a drug.

So you'll do weed but no sleeping pills? Taking sleeping pills get me back on schedule and I only take them maybe once or twice a month.

I sometimes thank God for insomnia , otherwise I wouldn't have time to do everything I wanted to. But yeah it can suck.

I run about 2-3 times a week, those nights I usually sleep well. Reading helps a lot too. Unless it's too good a book (I've been up al night with a book, many times)

Cut all your carbs for a couple of days , I don't know why it works but it does. Eat lots of protein too, but not before you go to bed.

Hyrdrate yourself well. (with water, not beer)

All the things above have helped me. I tried melatonin once and it didn't do squat....so I would say you need to test all these offers and see which one works for you. :D

This works because burning carbohydrates is what gives you energy. This is why people that do the South Beach diet are so lethargic the first couple of weeks. They're used to burning the simple carbohydrates that they take in, such as white sugar, white bread, soda, cookies, candy, etc. When you take those out of the equation after you body has become accustomed to utilizing them as food (not to mention storing the excess as sticky fat) it has to readjust and utilize complex carbohydrates that also give you energy, but not in a spiky, peaks and valley kind of way.
