I agree with much of Jons post on his blog but the part I am confused about is why you would sell it if you get it too semi profitability. Why not keep if it makes money. The reason I say this is because my friend is a real estate devloper / investor and the distressed homes he buys he keeps and rents out at a profit. This way he has a whole portfolio of properties making him money each month and the renters are also buying the houses for him by covering his mortgage payments. So in 30 years he will own a bunch of properties free and clear that will have also very likely appreciated a great deal at zero cost too him, in fact he gets paid to do this by making a profit on the properties each month. Not to say its all rosy because he has to deal with people not paying and crap like that but he is doing pretty well at it. Flipping to me seems very shortsighted. Why not let advertisers pay you too build a portfoilio of websites that you can monetize in many different ways and then when you want to retire begin dumping your sites that have a long history of profitability. A site that has a 5 year track record of profitability is worth much more than one with 6 weeks of profitability. Just my opinion.

Don't forget that Jon also mentioned that this could be a whole new way of selling sites on the net. If you could start an "Internet Real Estate Company" and have "agents" working for you to fix up these sites and flip them. Then you could make a ton of money. Even more when you gain a lot credibility and buyers trust you.

The problem with buying sites, fixing them up, and keeping them might be that you have to keep maintaining them for the long term. If you have no passion for the site, then it probably won't do well under your control anyway.

thats a good point but if someone hired me to flip websites once i learned how to do it i would quit and do it myself so i could keep all the profit.

I think with the excessive possibe options out there provide opportunity for an "internet realtor" who could also get paid to search and find (for a fee) the sites someone wants to buy or maybe even advertise on. It would free up time to focus on other projects. Internet property investing! Just like there are rental management companies and they are growing, there will be web manangement companies that will grow.
