MAC / PC?

If I want to develop a site where video is important... does it make getting a MAC a no brainer? or does it even matter anymore?

I prefer macs for development. I have a 15 inch macbook pro with an external 22inch widescreen display that I use for everything

I have to agree with Houdas.

Macs are for video/grafx is over and out.
Get the machine/OS you get your work done with the best.

Get ur self mac, with new leopard you can always use boot camp to boot windows for some programs, ie. games...

I like Windows XP just because there's so much available software for it. Apps, games, utilities, video cards, sound cards, network cards, RAID, etc.

And MAC software is spendy.... And not as available at torrXXts... My bad...

I've went to school for film and video, used a lot of sexy Macs, and unless you're making million dollar plus films, you don't need a mac if you prefer PC. It really doesn't matter anymore... so stick with what you know

thanks for the tip and great quote.

True, there is plenty of good design software for Windows today. However, for some reason I am much more creative and comfortable when I am using OS X. Windows just annoys me, even though I have used Windows for far longer than OS X.

NO OS wars please.

"Windows just annoys me"... ugh....
Macs just annoy me.

Really, it is just a computer. The one thing I can not stand is maccies... ya know the type "I am a creative and I need a mac, and they are better anyway."

One of them almost got punched in the face by me.

Story (Time to derail this thread)
I get a call from this guy, a friend of a friend and annoying mac-lover at half past eleven PM on a sunday night.
Guy sounds really deperate as he needs to turn in his taxes but can't figure out how to print them properly.
Why is he asking me? Well, only suitable tax program is a windows program running on a virtual machine on his mac laptop.
So without going on a rant about how all macites seem to have at least a virtual windows, I go above and beyond and tell him to come over.
...
After two hours of searching, I find one elusive check mark that enables us to print his stuff the way he needs it to turn it in for the German authorities for his small business.

So the problem lay in the bad design of the application, neither win nor mac issue, just crappy UI.

The moment he walks out of the door (at well beyond midnight), he turns around and says
"Well, I knew this was just the stupid Windows OS again. This would not have happened with Mac software."

Needless to say, it took all my willpower not to strangle him on the spot.
Never helped the git again.

Mac's Rulez!!!111!! ;P

Seriously though. The reason I will only use Mac's to work on is that they are built on Unix. So the underlying system is almost the same as on my servers.

If you use the same commands while developing on your home-computer and on your server, things will be so much easier. Plus you can fuck up your own system as much as you want and the reinstall is easy. You don't have to pay some guy to follow you into a high-security data-center to drop a disk into your server.

Oh, and I have 6 Mac's and one PC. The PC is used by my girlfriend to play World of Warcraft on and not much else.

And I am not the least bit creative. I couldn't draw a horse even if my life depended on it. Now, code on the other hand... MMmmmmm... Code...

But get what you are most comfortable with. But remember, the new Mac's can dual-boot. Hint! Hint! ;)

LOL... you understood nothing.

I do NOT flame OSes .. nor fight OS wars.

I can't stand people who do, though. And maccites are the worst.
So... again
I do not care about the OS you are using. If you think your overpriced machine makes you a better person than me, yes, I take offense.

Two posts said something about preferring a mac, no-one said anything about being a better person because of their hardware.

You remind me of the kind of people who scratch nice cars out of jealousy. Oh and this is the last thing I'll say about this because *I* really do not want to start wars.
