I went shopping for a hair dryer with my girl the other day.

There were these hair dryer with modes like Ionic, Ceramic, or Ionic & Ceramic.

Wtf?

Looked like a star wars prop.

Anyone knows what's that for and how it makes it better?

It makes it better for the hair dryer companies. They're probably industry buzzwords to create the illusion of larger product lines hence more shelf-space.

Chicks fall for crap like that all the time when it comes to fashion/beauty products.

My wife has three closets full of clothes with tags still on them and shelves littered with beauty products with scientific sounding names on them (containing price tags in the 3 figures as well).

According to some marketing pap I've seen on das intervebs:
An ionic dryer emits negatively charged ions that boost hair health. The negative ions break down water molecules to one-fifth of their size, so they're able to penetrate each shaft, hydrating from the inside out. This makes the cuticle lie flat, encouraging glossy shine. Regular hairdryers just blow hot air.

ya.......................right.

Gotta go, get one RIGHT NOW!

A a water molecule is two parts Hydrogen and one part Oxygen I'm having hard time believing that a hairdryer, however advanced, are able to split it down to one-fifth its size. Unless we are talking nuclear fission here, in which case I would not use that hairdryer.

i gots me one of dem damn ionic dryers... i only paid the extra 10 dollars cause it looked the least gay. Hey... gotta have nice hair if you want the hotties right? Just ask Nacho's dog... he'd know

Ceramic plates = Don't fry ones hair nearly as much as a normal hair straightener and the outcome makes hair smooth and less damaged
Ionic = Reduces the amount of frizz and makes hair manageable
