IRL Split Test - Racial Stereotyping

Wow, I saw some reaaal hate in some of the white people towards the black kid, especially the old man that was almost about to hit him it seemed like.

This is like a big slap to the face to the whites that really don't want to be labeled racist. Oh, never mind. It's justified as "okay" instead of racist. Big problem.

well what ever people try to justify it and say, yea sterotypes and shit like thats,
why not calling it , in its real name. racism, It is what it is, and amazing that so many generations and still people acts that way. i mean i dont give a crap white black green yellow red , dont care enough to even think about it as an issue, but the hypocrisy of some people is just amazing. if your a racist fuck, then own up to it and stop been prudish, if not great, but at least stop pretending.

(not aimed at anyone just talking in general)

Well put. I think more people would own up to it if it didn't carry such a stigma. Technically, it's not right to be racist but like it or not, it's human nature (to some degree, that is). We've always been - and always will be - "afraid" of what's different.

it's human nature to spot patterns in people anyway you can, it's how we survived as cavemen. i do feel a bit bad for legit black guys though, but that's life.

There is a difference between discrimination and racism. All people discriminate, it's the way our brain quickly categorizes information that we don't have the time or energy to deal with. Perhaps the reason the discrimination in the video exists has to do with the fact that young black males are far more likely to commit crimes. We used to take advantage of that when we were kids and we'd go to the mall with me and another white kid, and like 3 or 4 black kids. We'd walk into stores in two separate groups. Black kids would go in first and draw the attention of the staff. My accomplice and I would then go in and steal everything we could carry without anyone giving us a second glance. Once we got back home we would divvy it all up and nobody got butt hurt about it. We recognized it for what it was and profited off of it haha.

Moral of the story, the black guy and white guy should team up and start stealing cars.

Then by your definition squares and rectangles are pretty much the same thing. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not exactly. But in all seriousness take a look at these definitions I grabbed off the first Google result:

Racism: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races.

Discrimination: unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice.

Notice the common denominator?

I'm a white dude, dress lax/a bit baggy, and this was when I was in my early 20's. Not sure the scene would have played out the same way if I was not white, even though Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world. Got into my car a good 20 min later, not a bother from anyone.

Chances are, had you been black, you'd be dead and the cops who shot you would have found crack on or sprinkled about your person (cf. first video; 2nd video, 1m 50s in).

Everybody has prejudices. Not everybody is racist. See the difference? Also prejudices can relate to assuming people are better at something too, ie black people play basketball or asians are good at math. Those are also prejudices.

Your lack of understanding of what is:

Prejudicial
Racist
Stereotypical

Explains a lot.

Please clarify, oh wise one.

Wiki said it more succinctly than I can, with bullets.

At times, the terms prejudice and stereotype might be confusing:
  • Prejudices are abstract-general preconceptions or abstract-general attitudes towards any type of situation, object, or person.
  • Stereotypes are generalizations of existing characteristics that reduce complexity.
