Is the neg rep system going to be fixed?

Hopefully you guys are planning something a little different for access to the members section than the rep system, because there are too many idiots dishing out neg rep for no reason.

I posted a reply on the second page of this stupid topic. It started with some dumb spam post but then people were asking actual questions about CafePress and since I've played around with it I added in a little bit about my experience with them:

I've put a fair amount of time (3-4 weeks work total over 2 years probably) into a CafePress store based on the content of my main white hat site. The designs are cool/witty things based on my content, not just logo stuff. It's making around $100-$300/month. I have come close a couple times to getting bulk orders worth $500-$2000 in profit to me, but so far those customers have all backed out. I think it's just a matter of time before I get something like that, and that will really boost my overall monthly average. Still, it's not a lot of money compared to other online income streams.

I know there are some people making a living with CafePress stores, but these are people pretty much doing it full time. They have thousands upon thousands of products, usually in several different premium shops. And this isn't something you can automate like arbitrage. There are lots of ways to automate small parts of the process, but no matter how much of that you do you're still looking at a lot of manual work.

It's definitely nowhere near as lucrative as spending the same amount of time on arbitrage or affiliate marketing. It is pretty fun though. If anybody wants to give it a try after my tepid recommendation, here's my affiliate link.

The recent neg rep reset was great, but if people can keep doing this, what's the point? It should probably be limited to mods.

I'll probably get a pile of neg rep for this post, too.

A lot of your neg rep comes from you portraying yourself as an asshole and an attention whore. It seems like you enjoy the notoriety. I honestly believe that if you back down from that persona, change your sig to something useful and try to participate in a meaningful manner, that would change.

Act like an asshat, get neg rep. Pretty simple.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh, I'm backing down, I don't really enjoy notoriety, its just I tend to do quite stupid things when I'm bored, and posting stupid things on WF was one of them (doing stupid shit at school was another thing also).

I was merely saying that the problem with the negative rep is that a worseless asshat who is hated on WF can still actually contribute, but just because people hate him he will continue to get negative rep lol.

It does seem to be a problem, but I don't think there is an easy fix.

That's true. I don't really care about my rep except that I'm worried that Jon's considering limiting the resource section based on it. Either it should be improved (which is tricky -- as I suggested, maybe limit it to mods) or it shouldn't be used for anything important yet.
 
Change your sig (the ebook joke is old and isn't that funny) and avoid making long, grandiose posts about your trivial acomplishments and discoveries.

You aren't supposed to keep clicking the sig over and over and decide the joke is old. Just ignore it if you've already seen it. That's not so hard...

And what's grandoise about my posts? The fact that I type in complete sentences and spell correctly? Sorry, hard habit to break. I never make any claims to be an expert in arbi, affiliate, or anything else on WF, because I'm more into the white hat useful content stuff overall. I'm just dabbling in this and when I bother to share the semi-noobish stuff I've learned with even more noobish people asking questions about it, I get neg repped for stating the obvious by pricks who post nothing but snarky one-liners and never help anybody with anything.
 
We're going to start charging for the neg rep. Not in money, but in losing reputation powers yourself for giving out neg rep either too often or in general.

Reputation may not mean much to people now, but most of the shit on that flash nav bar on top is going to depend on reputation and mixed in with our custom reputation algorithm it will decide who is worthy of gaining access to certain areas, and who isn't worthwhile.
 
the worst part about the rep system is the gay little sayings that popup when you hover over someone's rep.
