they already have dress codes in schools, the fact they're trying to extend that power to the streets is stupid. I'd like to see them make a law like that in someplace like watts, oakland, or harlem

Dress codes in schools I understand. A certain uniformity in schools actually does prevent violence, particularly class motivated stuff.

But yeah, this city ordnance is either a cash-grab (i.e. the fines actually DO make the city money after they've paid the cops for arresting people), old people being generally insane and assuming clothing/fashion = morality and that hey should legislate on that, or just a general knee-jerk reaction.

Did your Kmarts have the baggy pants with the boxers actually sewn into them over there?
We had it for a while for the kids that didn't quite have the thighs required to keep the pants on with the underpants showing. So many kinds of sad went into designing those pants, and even more went in to kids shelling out $60 for a pair.

Its like that law in california now california penal code 422 where if you threaten bodily harm over a electronic device you can face 1 or more years in prison.

I was arrested for this, in California (San Diego to be specific), as a juvenile.

A girl I knew had lied to the police about my at the time girlfriend, resulting in my girlfriend being sent away. A complete 100% boldfaced lie, to save her own ass.

Then she had the balls to call me.

My words: "If you ever speak to me or come around me, you're dead. Fuck off bitch."

45 minutes later, at around 30 past midnight or so, there is a knock on the door. I answer only to be grabbed and thrown to the ground, cuffed, searched... a good 10-12 officers were on scene.

Searched the home, TORE my room apart looking for guns, explosives, etc.

Threw me in max security Juvenile unit for just over 2 months.
3 years probation.
6 months house arrest.

Sorry for the rant, but the law does take it WAY too fucking far.

It's like human nature and emotions are unacceptable. Be a drone.

It's BS.

Everyone has their opinions and views, but I wouldn't tell a smart investor how to manage their portfolio, or have a strong opinion about the future of stocks...

I wouldn't expect someone that hasn't been through the system to have a strong opinion of how it works.

I once got cuffed and driven home (also as a Juvenile) because someone I was WITH jay walked. I was still standing on the corner, waiting for the Walk signal. What the fuck...

Ok, you can't kill people... You can't shoot at people... You can't rape kids... This stuff is obvious... But to say no one ever deserves a nice ass beating, or a person can't dress the way they want, or you have to watch the wording you use to voice your opinion or emotion? It's bullshit.

Last month my best friend, close enough to be a brother, had a kid harassing the shit out of him. Typical "I fucked your girlfriend, you're a bitch" childish bullshit. The kid did this for 3-4 days straight... Calling my friend over and over and over...

Then, for some stupid reason beyond me, the kid SHOWED UP at our party, to PICK a fight with my friend! (Kid = 5'9, ~145 lbs... My friend = 5'11 345 lbs)

One hit and the kid was out.

Best friend just got sentenced to 6.5 years in Florence State Prison (Arizona)

This country is stupid.

lol

Sadly injustice is everywhere and much is motivated by money.

The new jail here is filled with DUI offenders. I DO NOT condone people out drinking and driving and putting my family and I at risk, but when the new jail sat empty and then there was a surge in DIU law changes and arrests, it is hard not to see the connection.

How about CPS refusing to allow a family to utilize FREE (specific to the problem with an agency that has a contract w/the state) services so they can refer the kid to 5 different agencies, 5 different intakes, until a service that addresses the specific problem is found? In the mean time the kid waits 5 more months for therapy.

At some point shouldn't the focus be public safety? What is best for citizens? Instead the focus is what will rake in some bucks with the least amount of work. While the public is saved from exposure to boxers and second hand smoke.....theft, rape, abuse, and other crimes rise....sexual offenders run free and live near toy stores......parents fill their kids' pockets with stolen items.....etc.....etc.

My heart goes out to the guy (and his family and friends) who is in Florence. 24 hours in jail can be life changing....6.5 years in prison.....I can't imagine.

The whole reason that this country is screwed (and this is my opinion...) is the double standards. And no, I'm not talking about race (but that's also true.. and not the "i'm black I get shit" kind but the "I'm white and i can't even get scholarships" kind) but the fact that little johnny will steal an ipod from someone, and the parents will fight to the death that it wasn't him even though they most likely know it was. Then johnny gets the ipod stolen back, and the press charges on the kid that stole it.

Bullshit all the way around.
