Laptop recommendations

I recently bought a new HP laptop, and I've learned my lesson. I'll never buy another HP laptop again- they are filled with bloatware and run slow and hot. I've already had my stock harddrive fail on me as well. The HP updater randomly fails receiving and installing updates to its shitty software that is full with security holes (see the recent problems with its quicklaunch bar). It's just terrible all around. Don't buy an HP.

My previous laptop was a Toshiba - and it was much much better. My next laptop will be a Toshiba. The HD never failed on my Toshiba (still runs after 4 years) and the only reason I got rid of it was because the power cord was poorly designed and eventually crapped out. I heard they still have this problem- and I haven't done any research on them lately. Good luck with whatever decision you do make.

I've been using an Acer laptop I got refurbished from Tiger Direct for a couple years. It was then a "powerhouse". It still runs photoshop and dreamweaver at the same time with no issues. In fact, it sadly runs better and more stable than an alienware laptop I spent 10x the money on only 4 months before.

Whatever you do, do NOT get a Gateway.
Ever.

I made the terrible mistake of buying a Gateway in 2006 (pre-Acer). A week after the warranty was up, the hinges cracked, a month later with it in my lap i thought i smelled bacon, it was my flesh being incinerated by that fucking hotplate of an underbelly. Soon after, the screen would randomly flicker and die. Right now it sits on a cooling fan that sits on a cooling fan in the corner of my office playing a 9,000 song playlist, and it will play it until it bursts into flames. My laptop policy is that it must do something for at least 3 years.

Most laptops are pieces of shit, apparently Thinkpads are lesser pieces of shit.
