Leaving America...

Tax-wise...
#1 You guys are FUCKING INSANE

#2 don't listen to WF advice. consult e-business specialized fiscalists with EXTREME, verifiable records of international referrals.

#3 Ultimately, as a US state citizen it will come down to:

#3a live in the US / business offshore -> panic every night hoping you won't wake up with newspapers declaring a bilateral US<=>OffshoreLoc tax inquisition. Or an employee at your offshore agent/bank/business walking out the office with an USB stick, ready to collect bounty ($MMM+) from any government in the world and retire for the next three generations <-- today, this is probably ISSUE #1. no matter how trustworthy your private banker/accountant/entire structure..... all it takes is ONE, so-called ,disgruntled' mother fucker from a room next door and the whole thing goes down.

#3b the most SOLID tax evasion scheme is to acquire citizenship of a nation with low/no tax. no more 'schemes', no more 'structures' or 'setups'... simply, you stop suffering high taxes not because you paid off a dude in the Channel Islands, but simply because more is not required from your resident citizenship! offshore setups in monaco pay 0% but need to stay focused 24/7 as to law adjustments and TIEAs. a monegasque citizen pays 0% but what newspaper scares him? he lives there!

#3c problem with 3b... you're a US state citizen. US IRS collects cash from citizens for a period of 10 years after they renounce US citizenship.

#4 as a US state citizen.... sorry mate but YOU'RE FUCKED. [note; more and more offshore service providers point-blank refuse service to US state citizens today. a law in the US quickly becomes a law anywhere in the western world if the US wants it so. even nations can't stop US IRS influence, how can a fiscal agency? so, they've begun to simply deny US patrons]

#5 Amsterdam as a business/tax-safe location? You've got to be fucking kidding me. US 30% TTB's (Total Tax Burden) are a lot? prepare for 54-71% in NL.

I was actually kidding about the tax evasion shit... But, I didn't fucking know that the IRS still taxes your ass for 10 years after you escape... What the fuck is that bullshit, Alimony?

And jesus christ 71% is fucking nuts!

+Rep for telling me a few things that I didn't know, that actually changes a lot!

Above^^^ very wise words indeed.

thanks for starting this thread LMSinc. America sucks greed runs this country and It's time to get the fuck out and look for countries to live in that won't fuck you over.

Australia get my vote as the best place to live. Only %1 of your income is taken out to pay for health insurance and it is taken out the same time of the year as your taxes. Beautiful country as well. Nice seasons and hot chicks all over the place. Everyone already speaks English so you don't have to worry about learning a new language. After paying taxes for 3 years you become a citizen and get all the benefits that an Aussie gets.

But like the above post says your best bet is to travel around and see what country best suits your needs. This part of the process might turn out the be the most fun anyway. lol

good luck and let us know how all this pans out for you.

I'm with you man... There are some things I really love about America, but they are far outnumbered by the shit I can't fucking stand anymore...

Australia is a good place, I've heard a lot of good shit about it, and it has nearly everything I am looking for, but it also has a few things that have me wary... Such as the excess of the Government... One of the things I'd like to get away from.

Somalia...no taxes at all and low cost of living.

Please tell me you are kidding... Just... Please...

dude, spare yourself and don't go to switzerland. language is too difficult to learn and if they notice a slight foreign-ish sound in your language, you'r fucked.

spain or portugal. both have excellent relations with the US and im sure you could get some kind of deal. talk to the embassies. since you live in the US i take that you do at least already know a few words of spanish lmao.

Are the Swiss really such assholes?

Spain would be awesome. As far as spanish, I actually don't, but I have the basics and the 'tongue' for it, I could easily pick it up if I actually tried.

who speaks what language is the least of your concerns when a government takes 71% of your income

Very true.

What about lesser known European countries? Are they any cool? What about Belgium, Finland, etc?

+1... I'd like to hear this one too... Including Eastern Euro countries

I'm danish, and seriously don't move here. The taxes are crazy high (among the highest worldwide) and it's cold all the time.

Realistically, there are three citizenship options. This is speaking as a EU citizen... it won't be as easy or even possible at all, as a US citizen. [other commonwealth options might replace them though...]

Switzerland

Monaco

Campione

I deal with 117 degree summers... I could use some cold... hahaha

Could you reiterate? Are you saying that I'm basically fucked, because I'm an American? :\ Tell me about it...

Granted I was only there for four or five days but in the area I was at they all seemed nice enough. Of course with the mega wealth in certain areas you have people who act like they were born with a better pot to piss in - but that applies to rich areas worldwide.

I found people in France [Mont Blanc] area to be pretty big assholes. Asked for directions a few times and got a lot of remarks like, "it's not that complicated", etc.

If you were going to move to Geneva, or southern Switzerland from what I understand, you would want to have a pretty firm grasp on French. I actually was pretty surprised how many people didn't speak English - I ended up just speaking French the whole week.

I am with the OP here. I am about done with the US, there just seems to be way to much shit going on. We have corporations forcing everything on us from the "music" that comes out to the "food" we eat. Our culture has destroyed itself, tuning us into Happy Meals. We have become unfriendly, fat, stupid, and easily controlled. Which while great for business is not great to live with.

If I was single I would have left by now but my girl friend is in grad school and will probably have to work here for a few years after she graduates to pay off her loans. Ive been trying to convince her that somewhere else could also pay off the loans but its to soon. The problem is that I have decided to shoot for a poorer country that will drop the cost of living down to nothing. So we will not have to work as hard just to enjoy life a bit.

Ive been shooting for south east asia, Thailand or Vietnam. But Singapore, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and a few others have looked nice at times. I have said that I will need to visit the place at least 3 times before I figure to move there so this is going to take awhile. One of the best ways ive found for now to learn about the culture of a random country is Anthony Bourdain's - No Reservations on the travel channel. You get a bit of the food, people, culture, and history from each country he visits. Buy his books watch the show.

Surprised no one has mentioned Italy. It is by far the coolest country in Europe. Like the other countries it's pretty corrupt but you get wonderful people, fabulous climate, great food, beauty and colour and light everywhere.

You do need to learn some of the language. Actually one of the guys on the language course I take is from Maine.

The south is very cheap especially for houses and apartments, but it's poor and a bit chaotic (just had a weekend in Naples - insane place): The middle and north of Italy is filled with incredible cities and beautiful countryside.

In Italy you're also very close to many other countries so you can easily tour around.

There's a small country called San Marino near the town where I live - might be worth checking that out.

Good luck.

LOL france , don't go there, it's worst than the US

the civil war is starting there first with their 10 millions Muslims
This. Unfortunately. I love France, the weather, the food, the girls, the language.
But they're getting into serious trouble more and more because of that, burning cars in Paris and shit like that.

The UK is next for this kind of thing ... but this is getting off-topic.

Italia!!

I've also been reading up on what I need to do to leave the country, not because I want to leave Canada, simply because I want to see the world before I die.

I've found a lot of info from 2p2'ers in the travel forum (mostly young ballers doing what you're going to do) - 2p2- travel You can get a real good feel of places reading threads from people who 'been there, done that'.

I did some limited research on New-Zealand(a place I'm very much interested in) and from what I remember you can get citizenship if you work for 2 years (for the same business) or start your own and have it running for a little while.

Applies to Canadians only: For any Canadians wondering about the "Do I have to pay taxes if I leave the country", no you don't. Only for the last year you receive income in Canada do you have to pay taxes.

For the part of the tax year that you are a resident of Canada for tax purposes, you must report "world income" (income from all sources, both inside and outside Canada) on your Canadian tax return.

After you leave Canada, you pay tax to Canada only on income you receive from sources in Canada

Lol Ricardo, stop hating ;)

That's because you're living in the countryside. Here in Zurich more than 30% don't have a Swiss passport and almost everybody speaks at least some basic English.

Though I wouldn't recommend Switzerland myself, I prefer countries with hot climate :D

Could you reiterate? Are you saying that I'm basically fucked, because I'm an American? :\ Tell me about it...
Right.

Agencies per-default avoid US accounts. Additionally, your government taxes your worldwide income as a national citizen and keeps taxing you 10 years after resignation*.

*if resignation involves 'tax motives'. which, 99% of the time is the entire point. unless you legally prove otherwise through marriage structures etc. etc. but essentially everyone just does it in order to escape financial oppression.

Consider a few variables: $weather, $taxes, $chicks, $language, $transport
My choice would be French Riviera or somewhere in south Europe.

The Greek islands are relatively cheap. Greece is like Europe's Mexico - but it's a lot nicer. If you're good for cash then the French riviera is awesome.

I ain't american, but i pay 0 taxes. I've been on tourist visas in 40+ countries in the last 3 years. Because im never actually a resident anywhere, I don't have to pay taxes.

i just enter a country as a tourist, and pretty much stay until my time is up(usually 3-6 months) and move on.

I believe there are loopholes even if you are American to avoid taxes though, PM me if u wanna chat more

Are the Swiss really such assholes?

You have to remember that Europe is currently being invaded by illiterate, analphabetic and uneducated immigrants from MENA countries. So the anti-foreign attitude is common. If you are white you should be fine. But just in case.. say that you are canadian.

Of those 5, Sweden is probably the easiest country to move to as an american since all swedes speak english very well. High taxes though.. and cold. But the chicks make up for it. And don't expect to get a job before you have mastered swedish.

If i were you though, i would move to southeast Asia. Or to a resort along the mediterranean.
