Wow, this is crazy and disgusting. News channels, blogs, ect... on the right are attacking LighSquared and comparing it to Solyndra. Mostly because a general said it may interfere with GPS and military communications and then Obama asked the general to reconsider his comments or something like that.

Basically, to me it seems like the big telecoms and the right are spreading rumors and completely trashing the company because they are afraid of competition.

They are afraid (and probably rightfully so) that they will be put out of business and won't be able to charge $100+/month for wireless phone/net access. So they play dirty political games and spread rumors to stop the innovation and competition...DISGUSTING.

I don't really know what happened with the general, but is it illegal to ask somebody to reconsider what they are going to say? If not, I don't see why it is that huge of a deal, but w/e.

I don't really care if they go after Obama because of that, but this company seems to be under attack simply because they are about to seriously start competing with the big telecoms.

The Att and tmobile merger should be blocked and then they should slam att with an antitrust lawsuit.

Then they should open the spectrum to lightsquared so we can all have low cost, high speed, wireless net access.

k, thx, bye

How fast would lightsquared be. It's 4g right? How fast is that comparable to standard cable based broadband?

^ I don't think it's about speed as much as it about being able to provide it to the public as a viable alternate (aka much fucking le$$) to the big monopolizers. "holy shit, if they can charge 1/4 of what we charge and provide the same or better service, we're fucked". Still - also curious if it is indeed faster and by how much compared to cable/broad.

For sure, I agree.. The cable companies have government sponsored monopolies, and they'll muster up every bit of lobbying power they have to ensure it stays that way.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with Lightsquared. It has to do with Obama's people being so psychotic they thought they could pressure a general into doing what they wanted. These people truly are insane and need to be thrown in jail for a long, long time.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with Lightsquared

"The White House denied trying to influence Shelton’s testimony. Col. Kathleen Cook, a spokeswoman for Shelton, also denied there was any improper influence."

Now let's get Fox New's side of the story:

Amid LightSquared Controversy, AT&T Unwraps New Network | Fox News

oh wait, sry, I think I just linked to an att ad? oh wait...what... O_O

Yes, don't you realize that it was Obama's actions that caused this? Nobody would even be looking at Lightsquared if the White House didn't directly intervene and try to get a general to promote that company.

The reason Lightsquared is big is because it would be satellite 4g coverage. It's not the speed so much as the fact that you get coverage everywhere and don't have to deal with the infrastructure requirements of traditional cell companies (towers, etc).

It would also probably be cheaper. That being said though, look up the head guy on Dealbreaker. He and his wife are ridiculous. They have a piano playing pig and shit.
