Lil Wayne MTV Unplugged

I was impressed how close he sounded to what he sounds like on albums

I watched a little of it. Caught it just after he tried to do a tupac song that didn't sound too good. His style is way too different to go as fast as Pac used to.

I'm not a big fan or anything but the first thing I noticed is that most of the people in the audience were white. Is that just because it was an MTV event or ?? There definitely was some autotune in effect on some songs... for example drop the world was almost entirely autotuned.

Never was a fan unless it was The Carter II that was a good album, over all he never changes - his lyrics, his make up everything doesn't change and that's what prevents him IMO if being "Greatest Rapper of All Time".

Kayne, Jay-Z, Nas have all switched it up and evolved with the music... besides a solo guitar album to me Lil Wayne is saying the same shit since the block is hot.

Watched about 5 minutes of this (skipping through different sections).. how is it you people are impressed he's not using autotune? It's not like he's attempting difficult vocals, it's a step above the vocal difficulty you'd experience by having a typical conversation.

And yes, there is autotune @ 26:00 and probably a lot of other places as well.

His success obviously doesn't come from his music, it's his image. From a musical standpoint, this is not impressive.

What musical success has not come from image?

He does have talent if you'd listen to his old albums. He might have "sold out" a little bit but it's all capitalism at works. ;)

Here's how it's done :

Beethoven. Dream Theater?

I understand that in rap/hip hop image is just as important as music, but that's not the point I was making.. Just that it doesn't seem to be some great feat. that he's not using autotune lol; the vocals he's attempting are not technically difficult in the slightest.

I`m just blown away that MTV actually played some music. I thought they stopped doing that years ago.
