Living In Western Europe

Speaking of Poland, Krakow is so much better than Warsaw. Totally cool city. Almost as cool as Prague, well, much less beautiful places but the ones are there are amazing. And much less known to touristic crowds than Prague which is the best part of it.

Krakow was gorgeous. I have a friend in Warsaw and spent more time there so I am probably a little biased, but yea Krakow is definitely the shit.

If you're looking at Poland - check out Wroclaw. It's a smaller version of Krakow without the bus loads of tourists.

In my experience - the more tourists, the less the actual females (not whores) want to meet you.

I was in Prague briefly and was served warm beer. Is that typical?

Depends on the style of beer. British and Belgian (heavier/fuller) beers are typically served at cellar/room temperature. Pilsner should be served cold though. They may have poured it into a warm glass straight out the dishwasher.

Love that OP asked about Western Europe and all responses have been about EE/Central :) Also consider Berlin. Lots going on and it's a very affordable place.

Yeah doesn't seem like a lot until you realize that the average salary in Budapest is like $650 after taxes. Also if any western country did this, everyone would be freaking out about it. The government there has been in Nazi freedom of speech suppression mode for a while now. A few years ago they essentially forced all non-state media out of business as nearly every one of them was telling the ugly truth of Viktor Orban and his cronies.

Well, there were protests and the tax idea has been cancelled:

BTW, Western Europe is no bastion of free speech. You can get jailed for a saying stuff there about certain groups (e.g, Muslims, Jews, etc.).

What's so hard about buying a plane ticket and seeing this stuff first hand? That beats what people on a forum say every time.

I've heard it's not as great as it apparently used to be. One of the things guys are complaining about are these "stag parties" that are taking over downtown Prague.

I imagine large groups of douchy men and bars that are sausage fests.

nonsense - I live here . You will be more then happy to stay in Prague. Speaking of experience having like 50 or 80 US friends and US biz partners here for visit in last 15 years - they were all impressed.

Wow! Many member picked Budapest..

But I definitely choose either Brazil or Switzerland.

Do a lot of people speak Spanish/can I get by with Spanish in Brazil? I don't want to bother with Portuguese if that's the only country I'll be using it in

Some people will be able to understand you but you won't be able to understand their responses back in Portuguese. If you know German, there are some areas where German is common.

+1 for Poland. Never lived there, and never been to Warsaw, but have been to Krakow as a tourist. Down town was beautiful, and Auschwitz is one crazy place to go spend a couple days at.

Plus they have a medieval castle right in the middle of the city center, so that's always cool.

Quick reminder.

Take a map. Anything to the right of Berlin is certainly not considered Western Europe.

DO NOT go to live in Sofia. If you are going to Bulgaria go to Varna.

Source:- I've lived in both places and Sofia is a shit hole. Varna in the summer is full of the hottest women alive.
