Looking for a New Computer

Mac - most reliable (lol)

That's a nice graph and everything but my personal experience with HP products is the polar opposite of what's implied by that graph. I mean, maybe they just suck at notebooks, but I have an HP desktop I got in... '02, maybe, which is still being used by my mom to this day. 256mb RAM, 60gb hard drive... jelly?

Also don't get Acer. I'm on an Acer right now, and I've never had a problem with the internal hardware, but the keyboard SUCKS. I've already replaced it once (spacebar snapped off completely) and the one I have now is already starting to fuck up. The speakers also don't work and never have so I have to use external speakers.

2/10 would not recommend to a friend.

1) Yeah, I'm aware of the hackintosh project and unless it's gotten better in the last couple of years recommending it to someone is an asshole thing to do. If you're going to spend your time looking over what works with whatever version of OSX you want to run you might as well save your time and buy a mac. In the time it takes me to do that I could have made enough money to buy the real deal.

2) Yes, I'm aware that OSX isn't Linux. Did you notice the quotes? The easiest thing I can compare it to so people will understand is Linux. "a good Linux" means all the benefits of Linux (all of the cli stuff and any Linux application) with the ability to run main stream software (Photoshop, a lot of games, etc).

3) It's not a FreeBSD kernel. It's XNU. It has parts of the FreeBSD kernel in it, but it's mostly not a FreeBSD kernel.

Next time you try to correct someone know what you're talking about.

It's OK, I know you're angry. I can tell that you read wikipedia furiously for 20 minutes before replying and don't know much.

1) OSX is made to work on certain chipsets and will install on those without any issues. It takes about 5 minutes to find out what it will work on and if that isn't worth saving $1,000 on a purchase to you than you are just plain retarded.

2) It's not even a close comparison to say a "good linux" that is just misleading.

3) I never said it was a FreeBSD kernel. I said it was based on FreeBSD. And it is, probably moreso than you believe.

The graph is only for laptops. The desktops are a huge difference.

I have owned almost all of those computers at one time or another and the buld quality of my macbook is the most durable by far.

The only thing different about macbooks is the chassis. They still use the same hardware manufactureres (foxconn, etc...) as any other laptop company.

Shock at thread with word "Mac" in it, getting filled with posts by people who use PCs explaining why Macs are rubbish/the same/overpriced/crappy/fashion accessories.

Have you not got anything better to do than type guesswork about something you've done nothing more than click around in for 1 minute in a computer shop?

At least when I belittle Windows it's because I've used it for fucking years - since 3.1 - and have a pretty good foundation to do so. Yet almost no Windows user can actually belittle OSX or a Mac with anything other than childish retorts, because if they did upgrade and use one for any length of time, they'd stay using them...

Definitely don't buy the new retina MBP. I bought it, waited 4 weeks for it to be delivered and returned it almost immediately because of how sub par it is. The display is shitty for everything other than video/photo editing and native apps that are upgraded to the correct resolution.

Just drop ~$1800 or so on some custom desktop rig and spend the rest of the money on monitors.

It's ironic because this is a marketing forum and people on here fall for Apple's marketing tricks.

All their products are made for and marketed to dunces.

Literally all Apple's marketing points are false such as stability, security, durability, "different".

I would buy a 21.5" iMac, 27" Thunderbolt display and an 11" Macbook Air if I was to spend 3k.
Or if you don't need the Macbook Air get the top of the range 27" iMac and the extra display.

I would HIGHLY recommend going custom. You'll get a fantastic computer for just half of your budget, but if you want to go all the way, then you'll get fucking robocop.

These guys get hard over helping people build custom PCs, reddit(dot)com/r/buildapc

You can ask for their help or simply look at people who have completed a build and see what they're building (they provide links to parts as well to make your life easier).

Only guy in the thread who knows what he's talking about.

Speak for yourself. I have used Windows since 3.1 too, and Apple products since "Macintosh" in 1984. If I am spending money, Im spending it on PC everrrr day.

Due your due diligence on latest processors(i7, E3, etc).

Determine your daily activities for the rig.

Go custom for the best setup.
