Looks like i'm going back to school. I must be losing it!

If your looking to get out of the house a few days a week, i say go for it. 8 credits is like 2 classes...not a big deal. Finish. You never know what turns life will throw at you. You might need it one day.

I did a degree, even though while I was doing it, I was running my own business, and knew I'd never work for anyone.

The content was actually sorta useful (it was a hardcore computer degree), but the main thing I took from it was I finished it, and got a decent grade, despite it having a very high dropout rate.

I'd probably be richer right now if I hadn't gone to college, but I'm still glad I did it. I think I'd probably feel I'd missed out if I hadn't. (I was 24 when I graduated, as I worked before going).

Also, the way I feel right now, in my 40s I may well go back and do PhD in a psychology-related field. Purely for my own intellectual satisfaction. I'll be financially independent by then, so I want to do academic shit for fun. That would be a lot tougher if I didn't have my Bachelor's.

But I didn't think I'd feel that way now, back when I was doing my degree.

So yeah, go finish it.

I would honestly say anyone who tells you not to go back is trying to look like an internet tough guy, or pretending to be stacking loads of paper saying you don't need a degree to be rich (I am not saying you do, simply stating that argument is invalid). If it won't hinder anything else you are doing, there is no reason why NOT too.

I only really went to college because it was the thing to do (keeping up with the jones'). IMHO college was a giant scam for me but i think it really depends where you go.

For instance, a lot of my friends went to penn state and had good jobs waiting for them because anywhere they apply has penn state alumni backing them. Unfortunately i was a slacker growing up and went to a state school in the poconos, didn't quite have the same pull when i graduated.

Either way, I dont want to work a 9-5 so it works out for me. If your wife is bugging you to get it, its a good thing to do, or she'll bring it up in the most irrelevant fights and situations. I get that shit all the time.

implying time is not a cost. and that I'm an internet tough guy. 'preciate ya

I'm kind of in the same boat. I lack a 5 hour course from getting my degree in a totally unrelated field. But I do kind of want to get it just to finish what I've started. I'm quite certain I'll never use it, but it's more of a principle thing i think. I quit about 4 years ago...

then let's amend "anyone who tells you not to go back is trying to look like an internet tough guy"

to "anyone who tells you not to go back is trying to look like an internet tough guy or maybe someone who suggests you consider the time value of money and opportunity costs." Not quite as bold a declaration :<

All this blind rah-rah "you should do it" encouragement is a bunch of bullshit if the degree has no purpose. Learning to not complete something that is a waste of your time is a valuable lesson to learn. In objective reality, a degree is a piece of paper. If OP wants to go work, its a good idea. If one needs to impress himself or others with a degree, I'd suggest reading The Fountainhead instead of going back to school. It'll cost a fraction of the time & money and cure you of the disease.

I never went to college either, and I'm planning on taking classes. I'm not working for the degree though, but going to try and take courses that might be useful in the future IE languages.

I'm only doing it for my own peace of mind. I know I will always wished I finished it up and graduated, so that's my main motivator. That & not having to hear my wife talk about it for the next 50 years. I have no intention of ever working for someone else again in my life, but I guess you never know. Can't hurt to have a degree in my bag of tricks.

It's a couple hours a week, which is no big deal. Since I work from home, it gets me out of the house which will be a good thing too. Listening to some asshole professor, who I make 10x his annual salary, drone on about useless shit I'll never use will be a challenge. I'll may have to outsource some of the writing assignments, but I can handle the tests.

Only 8 units left....go for it. It actually feels pretty good to get that degree and it's an accomplishment they can never take away from you. The recurring theme on this thread about never using it. I say rubbish. Getting exposed to new ideas, new ways of looking at things, and challanging yourself in unfamiliar areas will make you a bit more well rounded and that contributes to your success in business and life.

Just a thought, but you might ask them if there is any way to make progress by taking classes online. I've taken the couple classes my MBA program offers online to make progress while I have been out of the USA.

Not sure if this is a possibility but we also have study abroad seminars that pack 4 credits into 2-3 weeks. I've done a couple of those. They are a good excuse to go party in Europe or Brazil while studying international marketing.

so you do live in your moms basement?

LOL'z.. No. We have a pretty nice house here in So. Cal. My mom doesn't even have a basement.

I'm pretty sure the courses I need aren't online. Maybe that one last class to make up those 2 credits I can do online.

If you're only 8 credits away then hell yeah just finish that shit so you never have to look back, even if the degree never becomes useful.
