Map of the Real Bible Belt

Agreed. I'm from Detroit and have done design work for several "religious" people, groups, organizations and they all try to guilt you into doing the work for nothing. Sorry - I'm an atheist, that shit don't work on me.

I was "raised" catholic (another way of saying I know what they say, but not exactly falling into line here), and my wife is a pagan. So I usually don't think much of the whole god-guilt stuff they try. Usually it boils down to, here's my price, no I won't attend your sermon, here's the due date, and please stop glamorizing my last name in hopes of getting the price down...

Michigan is a big state, and the Detroit area is nothing like the rest of the state. As mentioned already, West side of the state (Grand Rapids area) is like another planet, and Northern Michigan as well. Plus, don't forget even in Detroit we have a HIGH population of blacks who almost all consider themselves to be religious. So I don't see the surprise there.

As a photographer I find GR to be difficult to get any nude work printed at a pro lab, but if you drive down to Kalamazoo, no problems getting a 20x30 nude printed up for someone. Can't really rely on online shops anymore because they can refuse your order on a whim. GR is also one of those places that the republicans like to have a lot of fundraisers at the garden, and are overly conservative as well as being a bit on the religious zealot side when it comes approving who does business.

Once worked with a designer, that he and half his clients would always start a business meeting with a somewhat loud prayer (ie: each person trying to over-vocalize one another without hitting the point of yelling with their own personal prayer, I'm guessing the more vocal you were, the more religiously determined you were?)

Uh yeah. That's what the South said the first time.

lol!

More like the Bible Splotch. I see that Alaska turned out to be not as religious as Sarah Palin and her freaky church affiliations made it appear.

Alaska (except for the Anchorage area) is populated by Eskimos, Oil/Gas/Mineral-employees ($$$) and crazy survivalist types.

Here in PA it should be near white in Philadelphia and dark green everywhere else. As soon as you leave city limits it becomes Pennsyltucky in short order.

Being from Jersey originally, I'm surprised it's as religious as it is. Chalk it up to legions of Catholic or Jewish grandparents.

Death toll wouldn't be so large in another conflict. It would be over fairly quick. Just remember what part of the country a large percentage of the military hail from.
Just remember they're all broke compared to the rest of the non-bible belt/southern states.

Guess not much has changed since the Civil War.

I'm wondering how recent that map actually is, since that could be close to 9 years old as we don't have our next census til a lil later. A lot has happened in 9 years.

Also I guess it depends on what is considered poverty. For some people anything under 30K a year for a family is poverty, which makes me wonder what the 15K I made for the year before last would have been considered to them.

A) The more rich people the more they will use their money and influence to keep their family members out of the war.

B) Poor Kid vs. Rich Kid fight usually = rich kid getting his ass beat.

It's not poor kid vs. rich kid. That makes it sound like a 'upbringing' thing, and that's not it all. Try more like the civil war(the old one, not the one popeye's planning), where there aren't near enough supplies to go around the southern camps, and their [early machine] guns melt ridiculously easy due to the low quality metal they had access to.
Wars cost money.

LOL..Im not planning or hoping for a civil war! Anything can happen especially with the way things are going.

I always plan ahead.

People generally haven't changed much. Probably not at all in 30,000 years. Don't believe me? Just sit for a while at a Waffle House and eavesdrop on your neighbors. Except for dress and technological changes and advancements, we're much the same creatures we were 50 and 100 years ago.

This map correlates almost exactly to the buck-toofedness map. Exact on that one Washington is dark green too because of all the lumberjacks and Microsoft geeks.

I believe 20/k a year for a 4 person family is the poverty level. Don't quote me though... i read it somewhere.

Ah, yes. I've called two of the states regarded as "Most Religious" as home for the vast majority of my life.

Now that I'm in Atlanta, it's not SOOoooo bad. But even in the city I'm confronted with morons that love to assume that I'm as bass-ackward retarded as them simply because I'm a white male and drive a truck.

Not to mention the idiot asses that assume that I'm just as racist as them because I make the mistake of being a white male with a southern accent.

But I can't resist adding that I've experienced some pretty "backwards" behavior north of the Mason-Dixon Line as well. Particularly in upstate New York. I know it's fun to point and laugh at the South, but there's plenty of religious nutjobs in pretty much every state.

Except maybe Deleware. Because even religious nutjobs don't want to live in Delaware.
