Meet the press ignores existing gun laws, spreading propaganda.

NBC anchor David Gregory acted on Sunday as if D.C. firearms laws didn’t apply to him. He brandished a 30-round rifle magazine on “Meet the Press” during an interview with National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. “Isn’t it just possible that we could reduce the carnage in a situation like Newtown?” Mr. Gregory asked while waving the prohibited object.

A ruthlessly enforced city ordinance makes it unlawful to possess magazines with greater than a 10-round capacity. NBC staff had contacted the Metropolitan Police Department in advance seeking permission to violate the city’s rules for the stunt. According to a spokesman for Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier, the request was denied. Mr. Gregory went ahead anyway.

So far, Chief Lanier’s office will only say it has “launched an investigation” into the matter. Several law enforcement sources say that if anyone other than a network news anchor had done this, a warrant already would have been drafted for the perpetrator’s arrest for a crime that carries a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine and one year in jail.

Wouldn't it make sense to just obtain a prop magazine for the stunt? They look identical to the real thing and I'm sure the network has easy access to them. Why would they even bother getting a real one? Especially considering how they prefer fake/fabricated things over real things.

You think the VP of the NRA isn't goin to call bullshit? They needed it for credibility. This is the crux of the whole problem. The government picks and chooses (and media) when to apply te existing laws. Enforcing existing gun laws would be far more effective and possibly even more popular than just adding to te pile of existing laws.

What is anyone going to say when the black messiah comes out with a plan to rid the streets of illegally possessed guns? No don't do it? Dat's racist?

Why won't they even try? He could go and bust up some crazed "white militia" for show( we know he won't touch the gerrrs) and be the hero
 
Why is everyone making such a big deal over 30 round magazines? It would only take about 5 seconds longer to shoot 30 rounds from three 10 round magazines.

Correct, and PLENTY of shootings have taken place with low capacity firearms.

Virginia Tech? More than half the people killed were shot with a low capacity walther 22lr handgun, yet the media blamed the fact that he had a glock 19 with 32rd magazine in his ownership (Which jammed after a few rounds).
