Microphone suggestions?

Really? I wonder if you ever ISDN'd into one of our studios before?! :anon.sml:
Late to the party but I've gone through a shit load of mics in various studios.
Here's my review of a few:
Audiotechnica 40/40 :: Cardoid - Good mid range, a bit sensitive to room noise, doesn't need a pre but they definitely help.
Apex 460 :: Condensor tube mic with multidirectional pre - very sensitive but you can mod it with tons of aftermarket stuff.
Shure SM7B :: Cardoid Dynamic - My current favorite and most used mic - going to a preamp - (here's the one I use)
My girl used the blue yeti and got great results on voiceovers (listen here) - but now she's also upgraded to the sm7b and a preamp (just can't beat it - it's a broadcast mic but is absolutely phenominal).
Here's a video of me going through my studio at my last spot - and I do a bunch of mic tests in a booth (the first three above).
*Edit :: If you have the cash, avoid the usb low cost mics, get a preamp, and get an aftermarket soundcard (even this one is awesome).

not bad at all for low end mic. Your audio quality will easily be 10x greater than the stock mic that came on your laptop

So are you guy have pretty much got me thinking to ditch the budget and get a preamp to go with a mic. I know absolutely nothing about it so I need to do some research. Anything in particular to watch out for? The only expansion and I have no idea if it would matter would be able to record Skype calls
I'm looking for a portable mic that isn't a piece of shit.

I use the AKG Perception 420 and I think it sounds byootiful.
As others have stated, definitely get a condenser mic for recording your voice.
