Microsoft are definitely dead to me.

...get yourself a 128gb micro SD card - problem solved. Oh yeah... you can do that with the Pro! Soon bigger and bigger cards are going to be released (theoretically up to 2TB) and space is not much of an issue anymore.

I think it's going to be awhile before we see more than 128gb micro SD. It's like a year long cycle every time it doubles in size. Meanwhile Kingston is making high end USB sticks in 512gb and 1tb models (1tb coming soon), but they are really expensive. I think the 512gb one is going for about £700. http://www.kingston.com/en/usb/personal_business#DTHXP30

What version of IE were you using? I have had no problems with IE10 and am loving it. Switching between Chrome, Firefox and IE and find myself working more and more in IE.

Realize MS has screwed up on several products but I've come around on Microsoft over the last couple of years. XBOX360, Kinect, the new Windows Phone are great and Surface Pro looks like a winner. Deduct points for a brown Zune!

Loved 95, lukewarm on 98, ME - BARF, XP rock solid after SP1 and better with time, Vista Disaster, Win7 great, Win8 - after you get used to the UI - pretty dang good.

Played around with MS Surface Pro and loving it so much that I'm buying one in the morning. Best unbiased reviews I've found are:

Microsoft Surface Pro Review | Ubergizmo
AnandTech - Microsoft Surface Pro Review

They did a AMA on Reddit here: I am Panos Panay with the Surface Windows 8 Pro Engineering Team AMAA. : IAmA

41GB's for OS is bs. The review versions they sent out had some more dev stuff on it and one of the big things is that they include the Recovery partition on the drive. They leave it up to the customer to move it or not but its there, just in case. Funny thing is, nobody ever bitched about the OS size on their laptops or macbooks full of bloatware.

In addition if you are so worried about fitting your entire pr0n collection on there, get yourself a 128gb micro SD card - problem solved. Oh yeah... you can do that with the Pro! Soon bigger and bigger cards are going to be released (theoretically up to 2TB) and space is not much of an issue anymore.

The biggest bitch I've heard is about not being able to type with the keyboard in your lap. If that is THAT important to you - you are probably better of with a ultrabook. Its not much of an issue for me since I very seldom type with a laptop in my lap.

I was using 9. Didn't even know 10 was out. Last chance...

It wants the reboot due to IE actually being tied into the CORE Windows OS and needs to write to system files that are in use with the OS running. Unlike non MS browsers which aren't tied into the core of your Windows OS.

This is ALSO why it is such a PITA to UNINSTALL!!!!

It can be done, but more times than not it FUCKS up the OS in various WEIRD ways when you uninstall IE and roll back to a previous version.

With this in mind, I was running IE 10 on BOTH Win7 and Win8 in VMware Workstation for about a week just to be SURE it worked OK enough to move up to it from IE9. All "seemed" well.

So, I decide to go LIVE with it on two of my MAIN boxes. In the first HOUR of it being installed I go to this site //ftc.gov/opa/2013/03/mobileapps.shtm and it won't FUCKING SCROLL DOWN the DAMN PAGE!!!! The video played fine and this page FTC Office of Public Affairs - News Room works just fine.

I had to fucking fire up FF and paste the URL to finish reading the damn page!!!!

Yes, I hit F12 while in IE 10 to get the Advanced Administrator Option box at the bottom of the screen and tried all the compatibility modes to no avail.

So, far that's the ONLY page that has screwed up in IE 10 for me, but......since that page works just FINE in FF, Chrome, Opera, and Safari I'm QUITE PISSED!!!! Although, I have NONE of the Aero, Java, or Flash problems that have plagued others with the pre-2013 releases of it. Though, I am a little puzzled that when I hit the Help and About in IE 10 it says that it's Update Version RTM. (This is on my Windows 7 Box.)

I had downloaded BOTH the Enhanced and Regular stand alone versions to install, but decided to go with the Windows Update version that MS had been bugging me to install since it was newer and also available in both my VM OS instances. Can still be gotten here Download Internet Explorer 10

I tried to just install the stand alones over the update install and of course the update install was a newer version as I had surmised, so I would have to try to uninstall IE 10 and let Windows revert back to IE 9.

What a PITA!! I still use FF and Chrome mostly, but do still have a use to IE from time to time.

Also, YES.....IE 10 is faster than IE 9 in "some" aspects, but it is still DOG SHIT SLOW compared to any other browser I use.

OH, and IE 10 uses MORE RAM and CPU resources than IE 9 did!!! ARGH!!!

Lulz

RANT OVER!!!

lol

P.S. Well.....I "thought" the rant was over. When I hit the submit post button this thing sat here like a dumb turd for like 18 seconds and then FLASHED my screen with a BLINDING WHITE WASH as it refreshed to show this thread. ARGH!!!

lol

First computer had windows 3.1 trolling the BB's and nothing but a sea of text. Netscape FTW! A little part of me died when Mozilla took them over. It's never been the same

OMGGG!! the same thing happened to me. Internet Explorer has not improved one bit. I swear my whole university system requires us to go on internet explorer to access our courses, grades, etc...ALWAYS crashes on me. but my university has such a shitty system for the website that it doesnt even load in the first try.

We have a tutorial in our university on how to effectively use internet explorer (latest version) to access our grades. Know what its about? Reloading and restarting internet explorer 5-6 times before the website works.

Out of those 5-6 tries internet explorer (Again, latest version) crashes like 2 times so its basically 7-8 tries altogether. My goodness!!

oh man pogs... the POISON brand was the baddest ass ones... gold, silver, black metal.. lol

I remember a aol chat friend from private room hell sent me a copy of vb6 (6 cds nigga) and the bas32 file for making punters, scrollers and shit. you were l33t if your angelfire site had iframes inside of iframes.

I'm a "mac fag" like the tag, but I could give a bit of unbiased insight into the problem. MS's complex relationship with its hardware makers, vendors and massive user base forces it to be a legacy company. This means they have to include code for older computers and hardware in their operating systems, leading to bloat and a general lack of innovation. Even though Windows XXXXXX is the latest, there's still a ton of old code written for old machines in the program. At its core, MS is a very conservative company.

Apple, OTOH, has a culture from Steve Jobs of slash and burn. They cut off older technology at the knees if something better could replace it. Apple ignored screams from the user base when they eliminated floppy drives in favor of USB, something MS would never have the balls to do if Apple hadn't done so first. They basically let Apple take the lead and copy whatever Apple decided to incorporate into the new models. It's kind of like a class dork trying to be cool by copying what the coolest kid is doing.

Apple was a massive failboat in the 1990s when Jobs was out and they copied the MS model that favors the highest profits: low innovation, building beige boxes and writing legacy code into the software. Apple began to recover with the release of the early iMacs in translucent plastic. This totally changed industrial design, and everybody copied it. The early iMac is not fully acknowledged as the first product to breathe new life into Apple. MS needs a new CEO to replace Ballmer, but even a new CEO could not change their conservative culture.

I did like IE for Mac before they discontinued it. It's been discontinued for about 10 years now.

I remember cereal boxes with AOL CDs with 100 free hours, and they kept raising it to 125, 200, 250. I think those CDs are now collectible. I used to use AOL like everybody else. Is MS going the same way as AOL? AOL wasn't so good at innovating either. While everybody was moving to the web, their business model was to make it impossible to cancel. Lame.

lol @ the new xbox not playing used games. Oh the ways they think to fuck over their customers.

I popped open IE a month or so ago, wtf is up with all the ads lol. Back to FF I went.
