Michael Strong, CEO of MKG (and my new hero), also serves on the board of the Seastead Institute. He has made arrangements with the Honduras gov't to let the city (location pending...) be an income and sales tax free haven, only property taxes are applicable apparently.

Hong Kong West is born

Here he is on TED

That's an awesome plan and idea. I guess Americans won't be able to take advantage of it however

the MKG Group, which will build the city and set its laws
tax will be on property.
the default law that will be enforced in the city will actually be based on Texas state law
businesses in the city will be required to employ a minimum proportion of native Hondurans – a requirement imposed at the outset by the Honduran government to ensure that the city’s benefits largely go to Hondurans.
To insure the city against political change, the Honduran Legislature has agreed that a two-thirds majority will be required to interfere with the city.
MKG will invest $15 million to begin building basic infrastructure for the first model city near Puerto Castilla on the Caribbean coast...That first city would create 5,000 jobs over the next six months and up to 200,000 jobs in the future

Just zoomed in all around Puerto Castilla in google maps and there ain't shit there... Just days of jungle in every direction. So he's saying that they're going to go in and make roads and dig wells and do everything to create this stead from scratch?

That shit's expensive... Sounds like a full undertaking of making a seastead to me, but while being taxed and centrally run still.

Yeah, it's just going to be an expensive, miniature Hong Kong at best. At least for the first decade I'd say.

I wish him well of course, I don't mean to pee on Strong's parade, but it still feels too doomed from the start for me simply because there will be a government ruling over them and collecting taxes, as well as a large initial cost imposed on the society centrally. (Whomever maintains those roads and wells and so on...)

Will keep an eye on though. Thanks Erect for mentioning it.

A big LOL at a place called Libertopia that uses property taxes.

Private property is essential to Liberty and property that can be confiscated for non payment of taxes isnt private, it's government rental.

Not to mention a deal made with a corrupt partner is worthless. They'll spend millions then the Honduran government will confiscate it all, " thanks for the city nigga"

^^^ THIS.

But also this:

and this:

At first I loved the idea till I got to this section. I rather pay a flat income tax or sales tax than to have to pay property tax on something that I buy once.

The only way this works is if they can lease FULL sovereignty from Honduras and run their city/land as they see fit without any interference and having "security personnel" there to back it up. Without that, a "deal" with a corrupt partner isnt worth the paper its printed on.

But nice idea all the same.
