FPS's belong on the PC.

Thumbsticks can't beat a mouse.

Mouse vs thumbstick? What do you choose?

(edit. I might have gotten this for 360 to play with some of my friends... but that's the only reason...oh yeah, and my 360 is dead and I'm never getting another one...

It would be fun to see a poll on how many 360s one has gone through. Only 2 for me, but my friends... geez.)

I just bought a PS3 with Modern Warefare 2 for thanksgiving but I wanted to see what it would be like on my PC so I bought it there too. I wanted to try these dual video cards out. ^_^

anyone used one of the couple mouse/keyboard controller w/ a 360 or PS3?

Before you ask "why not just buy on pc" I prefer consoles soley for the hardware congruency, I haven't been able to keep up with XYZ video card or ABC motherboard in a decade and don't care to and nothing is more frustrating than losing due to hardware.

I played CS for 8 years, several of those years I was involved in every league there was. During that time I had 0.13-0.15 sec reflex, I'd whip my mouse and end up on your head, no readjustment needed.

Used a 300~ dollar pair of Sennheisers and got to the point where I could predict exactly where you were and where you're heading using only sound. Learned over the years to take advantage of this in every map, dink dink, dead again through the wall.

Was able to control the recoil of the AK from the top of A in dust 2 to a smaller circle no bigger than the head of the team coming through cat. Learned all tactical advantages the league maps had to offer by watching the top matches/cpl demos religiously, a lot of those advantages required the dexterity of mouse/kb.

So I'm going to go ahead and correct your statement that console players do not, never have, and never will compare to the level of skill achievable on PC "until they do it themselves".

I'm sure you were probably good, but didn't it piss you off that there were so many people hacking on CS? I played since 2001 as well...spent a good 3 years dominating the game and then got so pissed off with the number of script kiddies hacking that I quit. Recently I had it loaded again and have been playing...but I've turned it off in favor for MW2 and the PS3 console version because its not possible to hack as easily. The excitement is there even more because I know that everyone is on a level playing field.

With that said, sometimes I wish I had xbox360 just because the PS3 has shitty network connections for multiplayer. The PS3 relies on a peer to peer type system to share the bandwidth load, and most times if you are playing with someone who is the host - and they leave... it tries to find another suitable host among the players playing - and if it can't the game ends. It's really frustrating. I am assuming that the xbox360 doesn't have that, but I don't know for sure. Does this happen to anyone on xbox360?

I personally play COD 2 on Xbox 360 but I think that it would be more logical to play on PC if you are working online at the time it might be fun to do IM and COD 2 at the same time or off and on.

the whole thumbstick vs mouse argument is kind of irrelevant..

You gain no "advantage" of playing with a mouse&keyboard if everyone else is playing with it too.

That being said - because MW2 was a straight port to PC, I'll continue to play it on my PS3...

not to mention there is just wayyy more to Modern Warfare 2 than being able to aim. It is just as much a game of strategy and requires good thinking, teamwork, and tactics to be good.

You'll never know what you're capable of if you sit down at an auto aiming console with sub par controls. You will find this out exactly using mouse and keyboard.

Rough count in my head, I got banned from more than 150 counterstrike servers for cheating... sometimes it would be my score, sometimes it would be the uneven playing field, 95% of the time it would be accusations of aimbotting. I have some friends who dominate on console, but they really can't pull off the shit I did in CS, not a chance.

Let me elaborate,

I played CS for 8 years, several of those years I was involved in every league there was. During that time I had 0.13-0.15 sec reflex, I'd whip my mouse and end up on your head, no readjustment needed.

I do agree, I played cs pretty much solid for the last 2-3 years and before i quit and imo my reactions, reflexes, aim was pretty solid and I dont think you can replicate the kind of level you can using console controllers.

I also played CS for many years on the PC and understand this, but it's just a different format.

Halo 3 isn't even available on PC but watch some Halo 3 pro videos and tell me that it doesn't require extreme skill to be professional at a console game. Go and play halo 3 for a year straight and you still won't beat these people...

At the end of the day it's just another medium for playing the game and it's all relative, you can still get to a professional level on a console and be one of the best in the world and know you're better than 5+ million people...

Just think about it, just because you can't aim to the same degree of accuracy does not take away from the fact that you are competing against millions of people on a level playing field. Do you think being better than over 5 million people on a console is easier to do than on a PC? No. You're still competing against the same amount of people and relatively the competition will be just as tough.

It's all relative.

PS. Your explanation of how you played CS is hilarious.

I agree that the PC is superior for FPS, but not for this game. The PC version offers no compelling reason other than being able to turn with the mouse, and is much more likely to be full of cheaters.

I disagree, you need to be a friggin octopus to control the player in the XBox version.

I bought an Xbox specifically for that game, played it 20 mins, it's been collecting dust next to my Wii (which has been collecting for 6 months) on my ent. center.

The main reasons I prefer playing a console these days is (a) because there are virtually no cheaters and (b) it is a complete level playing field. Whereas with PC games the way you have the game configured and your PC spec can give you quite an advantage over other players.

Lol. I'm sure if you had persevered you would have gotten used to it.

I was not a fan of Bond on the 64 because I thought it was so inferior to pc shooters. I played counterstrike for 6 years.

Having said that, COD on the xbox 360 is really fun. Having a social network like Live is great for gaming. As is playing on your couch and not having to deal with cheaters. Learning how to play with thumbsticks isnt that bad after while.

I ply MW2 on PS3. Love it, no problems with internet games. Personally I hate playing a FPS on PC..

for casual gaming: xbox
for serious gaming: pc

then again no dedicated server support = why bother with pc. there will never be serious gaming without dedicated servers.

I have mw2 for PS3. I dont have an xbox and dont care for it. I played CS on PC but got very sick of those guys running around and 1 shot head shots all day... plus the "bunny hoping" (gay?) wasn't much fun ... I think anytime you start "Watching demos" to "study" how to be "better" at counter-strike you may need a better hobby.
