Monitors and Eye Strain

i just installed that program...i like it so far (about 2 hours of use)...i'm also in a completely dark room besides my laptop.

Can you point me to the stuff you're talking about on amazon.com? I kinda get the overall picture of what the room is gonna look like when all lights are in place (sexy:338:), but not sure exactly what stuffz to use.

Yeah, try searching "uplights" and you'll find stuff like this...

Ikea used to make some almost exactly like these but they don't seem to have them anymore. Cheap, bury them behind furniture, stick em in corners, you can use coloured bulbs (I used to have blue bulbs in 3 of them around the room in my place in Vancouver in ones like this, that let you control where the light goes a bit better [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Black-Metal-Swivel-Uplight-Plant/dp/B002JE7OFY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=furniture&qid=1267406881&sr=1-3]Amazon.com: Black Metal Swivel Uplight - Plant - Can Light: Furniture & Decor[/ame]) 1 behind the tv, 1 behind the couch, etc.

You could use the new LED type bulbs in them, and though expensive, these remote controlled colour changing ones could be the bomb...

Make sure you don't go over the recommended wattage and don't set your curtains on fire.

You could halogens but they'll get hotter...

Here's a few others...

For the desk those Z Lamps are pretty nice, but also quite expensive. I use typical swing arm desk lamps and just point them at the walls/ceiling...

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Alvin-G2540-B-Swing-Lamp-Black/dp/B001DNFLYS/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_1]Amazon.com: Alvin G2540-B Swing Arm Lamp, Black: Home Improvement[/ame]

I've got nice brushed aluminum ones. You could load these up with LED bulbs too and get the same kind of easy on the eyes light as the Z Lamps at a tiny fraction of the cost... just not as sexy.

Quick example of reflected light. There's another lamp out of picture and you could augment this with some floor pots behind the desk, or in your case behind you, or whatever.

hello bros

I was wondering - what are the best settings on the monitor to avoid eye strain?

like at what do you set your brightness and contrast, gamma and other things.

What additional lightning do you use, if any?

Good luck bros

This is money...especially for working at night as long as your not doing anything design related...changes settings depending on time of day and location.

just get a 23 inch monitor and set your resolution to the highest and you will never have eyestrain again.

Very interesting thread.

I've got to do something. Right now my monitor has nothing other than wall behind it. I've got to the point that each morning my eyes take awhile to adjust, but an hour or so later are good, clear focus, no strain, etc...

However, by the end of the day what used to be clear on the screen is now blurry, eyes feel as if they are straining. Sometimes I also see "fuzzies", which at first glance I think a little piece of fuzz or dust is floating by, but it's just something to do with my eye strain I suppose, as it's not really there. I don't know, I asked by brother about this and he said he has this same problem sometimes.

At first I thought I needed a new eye exam, but just one day away from the desk and I can tell a huge difference, so it appears that it's obviously the monitor, and staring at it all day, that is causing my problems.
