Mr. Robot

FUCK!

From Mr. Robot's facebook account,

"The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia. Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time."

They'll be postponing the episode until next Wednesday.

they are dropping spoilers on heir own show!

I'd like to know who Elliot is speaking to when he says shit like "Did you do this?" "Was this you?".... etc. It almost seems like he's speaking to the audience, but it's more likely it's another persona we haven't even seen yet.

One time, he also said "I created you"

The dope house scene was pretty crazy. The one where he shoots heroin and makes out with some girl, then ...

Yeah, they were right to postpone the finale. And after the scene with psycho wife, I was sure that Elliot == Tyrell and she was playing along.

The show writer got lucky with the Ashley Madison reference. At first, it seemed like they added that in, but it was also referenced in the first episode, before the dump happened.

The Chinese tranny from a few weeks ago looks like the same actor who plays pretty much the same character in Banshee.

Looks like a rehashed version of Person of Interest. Yeah right, one person can do ANYTHING with a computer from his basement....

Still enjoyable if one put all the fluff aside and just enjoy it. As I did. Can't wait for Person of Interest's new season as well.

I love the show but the ending was weak.

The shows writer is acting like destroying the world economy just resets everyone to zero. No biggy, just pop down to Starbucks and pickup a frappuccino.

At one point I thought Elliot was realizing what he did and was going to scream at Mr Robot "What have we done? We've killed billions of people!".

How are you going to buy food when money is worthless? Rely on the Government or the kindness of strangers, yer good luck with that.

At least Fight Club admitted the end goal was to force people to live like peasants hunting for deer and subsistence farming.

There is more to it than just killing the money. The writer is Egyptian, and a big part of the story was inspired by Arab Spring. The guy running E Corp represents Mubarak, where the real goal was to get him to resign. The after-credits scene is interesting because it reveals there is indeed a flaw in Elliot's plan, and the CEO guy is not the least bit concerned (though we have to wait until next year to see the implications of).

Yeah, they were right to postpone the finale.

They were right to postone the finale? Are u serious? Who gives a fuck if some psycho killed all those journalist? People die every day, there is no need for acting all good now. Fuck those dead idiots and postponing for stupid reasons.

i don't think they "killed money" in the finale, just killed Evil Corp (still remains to be seen) and earased their debt. I'm sure money still works. We'll see in season 2.

I think the answer to the question of "what happens after the debt clock is reset to zero" will be the whole premise of season 2. I'm sure the writers aren't naive enough to insinuate that an event like that will mean equality for everyone.

There's a bunch of open ended questions that can lead to a long, interesting story arc:

1) Why is Angela part of E Corp now and what will her role be going forward?

2) What's going to happen now that the therapist and her cheater ex-bf know what Elliot really is doing?

3) What is Tyrell's real motive and who is he really working for?

4) When the CEO or E Corp says he knows who is responsible for the hack - how does he know and how is he going to "deal" with him?

5) Who were all the people at the mansion in the cut scene, and why were they all super happy / unconcerned?

6) What's the Elliot / Mr. Robot / Dad relationship going to be like going forward?

A lot of cool stuff to look forward to...

Could be PR related as well - they got some attention after that announcement.

Some comments from the creator:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: For the finale, you skipped the hack and threw the audience into the deep end. What was the thinking behind that choice?

SAM ESMAIL: We’re shifting down gears into this new world where we’re aware, along with Elliot, that Mr. Robot is his alter ego and that he sort of is this demon that lives inside of him and that Elliot can’t account for all of his actions because of him. That opens up this whole interesting can of worms that we’re basically setting up for next season, one of them being this element of time loss. Let’s not forget that in episode 9, Darlene mentions that he was the one that created fsociety with her. We’re not even aware of that, neither is Elliot. There’s that to explore. Now we’re missing three days. In those three days, what happened? Where is Tyrell? What was the deal between him and Tyrell that allowed the hack to still continue? All of that sets up really interesting questions for the second season. One of the things that I love about the finale is that it’s essentially queueing up where we’re going to go and on top of that, shifting the direction of our story. Now it’s not about this mystery within himself that Elliot’s trying to resolve. Now it’s grown more external. He’s aware of what’s going on inside of him, and it’s leaking out. How’s he going to deal with that?

Is the mystery of those three days the immediate conflict once season two picks up, or is that something you’ll explore over time?

I think everything is going to be looked at over time. The whole backstory of fsociety, as well as those three days, is something that I think we’re going to delve into in the next season. I don’t know exactly when yet, but we’re definitely going to show it.
Mr. Robot finale postmortem: Sam Esmail answers burning questions

That makes sense because of the way you handled the Mr. Robot reveal, which had the tone of saying “We know you guessed this.” Did you figure people would pick up on that right away?

Not only was I predicting it, we were basically telling everyone throughout the season. For me, it was about you empathizing with Elliot, being in Elliot’s mentality. That was one of my biggest goals for the first season, that you got inside his brain, so that when the reveal happened, it had nothing to do with you being shocked. It had to do with you being in Elliot’s shoes when he finally realizes what’s going on and that you get the emotional resonance that Elliot gets in that moment. That was our whole goal. I know a lot of people wanted the shocker — and perhaps the Darlene twist in the episode before satisfied that itch — but for us, that moment with Mr. Robot was strictly about the audience and Elliot aligning. I actually think now that we’ve gotten past that, it’s freeing. Now we can deal with the consequences of that. Knowing this, what are we going to do with Elliot and Mr. Robot? That’s where I think the interesting stuff starts coming up.

Were you trying to communicate that to the audience by using “Where Is My Mind”?

I’ll say this right now. I rip off of every movie and TV show I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m a film nerd. That’s what I did growing up. Other than being on the computer, I was watching TV and movies. I make no apologies. Fight Club was one of my big inspirations for the show. I think the nod or the acknowledgement with “Where Is My Mind” at the end of episode 9 was, yes, in part letting the audience know that we’re very much aware that Fight Club was an inspiration, but at the same time, we make no apologies about it. We own it. The thing is that by doing that, by making that bold choice, I think we open ourselves up to the criticism of being derivative, and that’s the challenge I take. I think we’re incredibly original, despite the fact that we borrow so much from so American Psycho, Taxi Driver, and Clockwork Orange. The list goes on and on. It was an unapologetic homage/nod/acknowledgement to the audience that Fight Club was one of our inspirations.

I liked this show less and less as the season went on. Every scene with Elliot was great... every scene with the doe-eyed blonde (and pretty much anyone else) was exhausting and laughable political blather ("i hate big corporations. Do you hate big corporations? Great! Lets hate big corporations! Its fun to hate big corporations!")

This show is a complete visual treat. But I cant help myself laughing at some of the noob quotes the writers make. But +5 to Gryffindor for the research gone into it.
