So I come from Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland.

Demographics:
4% Asian (Primarily Chinese, Japanese and Pakistani)
2% Black
92% White

To put that in context, back when I was in school my school had 600 pupils. In that school we had maybe 2/3 black guys and around 10 asians. The rest were white.

Also I believe that the vast majority of the immigrants come to the city because they know it is a hub of culture and has high levels of education (very good free education available here). Many of the people from other cultures that come to the city fit right in because they come from hard-working, smart families. There are no "muslim areas" here.

The British Empire was always about trying to mix in as many cultures as possible. I personally think that a lot of Asians, Africans and other people are just as British as me and it's only a tiny minority that want to impose Sharia law.

On top of that, the ageing baby boomers are going to need expensive cancer meds, etc, etc.. Without immigration from these countries, we can't afford to pay it. Heck, I'm not sure we can afford to pay it with immigrants.

Umm... they did, for the last 400-500 years. Then the two world wars happened, there was a sudden shortage of white men (due to most of them having shot each other), and the flow reversed.

Response from the mosque:

Individuals claiming to be self-styled ‘Muslim patrols’ have been harassing members of the public on the streets of east London late at night, including outside our mosque after it has closed. They have anonymously uploaded their exploits to the internet.

These actions are utterly unacceptable and clearly designed to stoke tensions and sow discord. We wholly condemn them. The East London Mosque is committed to building co-operation and harmony between all communities in this borough. The actions of this tiny minority have no place in our faith nor on our streets.

Earlier this week we contacted the Police and the local authorities to alert them to the presence of these individuals and video. We advise anyone who has been harassed by these individuals to contact the Police.

We will monitor the situation closely and our Imams will be speaking out against such actions.
