America has gone from government of laws to semi-political banana republic

The rule of law has been replaced in Washington by "yes we can." The events we witnessed Thursday in the Senate, that is Majority Leader Harry Reid's success at invoking the so-called 'nuclear option,' stripping the minority party of its primary power to block nominations, have become a stunning capstone to what has been already a steady erosion of a government of laws down to a sort of semi-political banana republic.

We are now living in a republic in which politicians do what they want without regard to tradition or the best interests of our country.

The rule of more than 200 years since the Senate was formed, as described by James Madison, to be "...the saucer of the hot cup of the House" has been overthrown...

This is what happens when stupid people are allowed to vote.

I'm not familiar enough with political science to say if there's a better solution than democracy, but clearly something could be improved upon.

He now has complete control over the federal judiciary and will pack it over the coming years, in addition to all executive appointments.

As Michael Savage has said, this is truly a historical day when liberty died in America.

What government...

FORCES you to buy something you don't want.

Makes you PAY for this to be set in motion on top of that via taxes.

Puts you in JAIL if you do not pay that tax money, plus takes away everything you own for life.

And then tells you to sign up using only THEIR method, which doesn't work...

Puts your PRIVATE information at risk, SS#, DOB, etc.

Proceeded by telling you to just deal with it.. "We're working on it."

All while you get screwed over?

....

Welcome to the American dream.

*Of being owned, controlled and deceived.

It's so buriful.

But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.

- Lysander Spooner

Not sure when that was said... but it was a long fucking time ago. 1870-71?

Hellblazer, I see major improvement in your sales pages - good job. Your old giant walls of text have been replaced by large emotional colorful pictures that grab your customer's attention. The text that you do have is concise and meaningful. And as usual, you did a great job on the title - always your strong point. I see big money in your future.

If Congressional Republicans didn't act like petulant children throwing tantrums, they'd still have their precious filibusters.

I say go back to the days where you actually had to stand up and talk for hours on end in order to filibuster, not just threaten it.

Tossing a Spooner quote in this kind of thread is like enjoying a nice Cabernet Sauvignon with chicken McNuggets.
