Natural Sleep Aids?

Sex, marijuana, sex, and scotch. In that order. Plus a NIIICE mattress and comfy sheets.

its interesting, ive taken over the counter melatonin stuff i got at costco, and lunesta, and id say that the lunesta is better the first couple times you take it but you get a tolerance quickly and at that point the melatonin is more effective... just my experience. melatonin gives you some trippy dreams tho.

Work until exhaustion. Then sleep like crap. Wake up cranky and do it again. Seems to work for me. :)

I think a lot of entrepreneurs have this problem. Being self employed it's difficult to leave work "at the office", especially if your office is less than 100 feet from where you sleep and in the same building.

Maybe less coffee - if you're a coffee drinker. I'm sure that contributes to my sleep problems. Coffee in the morning, afternoon, evening and before bed. Been doing that for many years (10+) and even though caffeine doesn't have a noticeable affect, it could still be a contributor (I suppose).

I would highly recommend exercise in the morning before you go to work. I started working out at 5:30 am and by the time I was done with my day all I wanted to do was crash. I'm sure a lot of it was the fact that I was up at 5:00! Anyhow, worked wonders for me for both sleep and overall health.

Do you drink before sleeping?

I am one of the rare ones who sleeps less well after drinking the night before. Even if I've had only one beer. I'll just wake up at some ungodly hour (~5am) and not be able to fall back to sleep because my mind is racing.

Whats the longest anybody here has gone without sleep? I'm a wuss, I think maybe 36 hours is the most I've ever gone before I just crashed, but I have a friend who was up 7 days in a row due to insomnia, he said he almost went mad. I cant imagine staying awake that long under any circumstances.

Like the others said - excercise is key. Instead of walking try doing something that actually gets your heart rate at or above 120 bpm for more than 15-20 minutes at a time: running, P90X, HIIT, weight training (if you learn how to do proper form deadlifts your husband will LOVE the results...trust me ;) ). Basically anything which forces you to actually exert yourself will allow your mind and body to power down at the end of the day.

5 days for me back when I was young and in the Marine Corp.

I average 20 to 26 hour days before getting about 4 hours sleep. It doesn't matter if it's day or night when I decide to sleep. I have my bedroom windows completely sealed so that light doesn't get in. (It's a DARK cave at anytime.) I usually lay down around 9 or 10 in the morning and am back up around 1 or 2 in the afternoon on a regular day.

I quit the caffeine and cut back on the Nicotine to see if it would make a difference and there has been no difference in my sleep pattern. About once a week I'll get a good 6 hours straight if I put on the subliminal relaxation CD of beach waves crashing on the shore.

If I'm deep into a project I regularly hit the 36 hour stretches before getting any sleep. (Kind of the Men in Black work day at those times. lol )

I've been a night owl most of my life. Back in my late teens to early 20's I'd get up Friday morning and then not get to sleep again until sometime LATE Sunday night. Those long weekends probably conditioned me to have the sleep patterns that I have now.

Turbolapp I am probably one of the worlds worst insomniacs i have actually stayed awake for seven days and nights. I know you dont like the medication idea but heres what i do.
1 make a to do list of all thats going through my head
2 take a 25 to 50 MG benadryl its an over the counter thing
3 meditate for as long as it take to clear my mind and reassure myself that everything im thinking about is written down
4 by the time im done the benadryl kicks in and my mind is clear and i go right to sleep because your mind is worrying about tomorrow

Also dont take too much benadryl or else it will keep you awake because it will work backwards or try not taking it and do the other steps. but send me a PM and let me know how it works for you
