Need help getting internet revenge.

Hey everyone. I figured that that there's bound to be some people up on here that know what they're doing when it comes to revenge over the internet. So here goes the story:

On a site similar to myspace, someone that I know has made a fake account and is posing as a friend of mine. The problem is that my friend and I don't know exactly who, but we do know that it's someone that knows us well just because of the stuff that is being said. So basically, we need to figure out who this person is. I know that if I can get the IP behind the account somehow, I can figure out the culprit for sure. But maybe you guys have some other methods of finding out who this person could be. Here comes the problem though...

On this profile site, you can't put in any HTML or CSS codes. Yeah, it's pretty garbage like that. However, they do have some vbulletin style coding like the [*img*] tags and stuff. So maybe there's an image code that can do the trick? Not really sure if anything like that exists though...

So tell me, is there any way we can figure out who this person is?

And there are no pics up of my friend on the site but the profile is probably going to be removed soon as he informed the abuse team.

I just want to know who's behind this so that we can give that person a good ...talking... to.

Umm this is what I did one time...

I uploaded a picture onto my server and showed that person the picture. From there, I checked my web logs to see the latest IP that looked at it.. and yeah, if you look on some geo databases, you can figure out where they're coming from.

You can use the tag to link a php script that will extract browser-passed info, like IP. Then, just store that data into a db or something. However, it will be tracking the info for all visitors. Maybe you could send him a note/PM w/ an embedded image.[/quote]

Great idea! Agh, I wish you told me this a few days ago. :liebe028: But the account was taken down by the website so all's good now. Woulda been nice knowing who it was though.
