Need Some Personal Advice...

Thanks for that valuable post.

Anyway, I'm actually thinking of taking some classes if I get to a point where I can afford it. I need to learn PHP, and get more proficient with xtml/css. Maybe some marketing classes.

But, I'm not going to school so I can get a job. If I have to have a job, it's going to be sales related. I've got the resume for sales, there's money in sales, so if I'm going to be working for someone else that's probably the route I'll take.

My whole plan revolves around not having to work for somebody else.
Alright, I'll be completely blunt and solve all of your problems.

Step One - Take your most profitable domain and sell it. Damn straight, I said sell that shit. Take the few grand that you got and do what you need to do. Then, rebuild a different site to the same level of success.

Step Two - Focus on a few target markets. Sell what you know. I'd try something to do with pianos.

Step Three - Thank me for saving your ass. Buy me a beer sometime. :)

I don't believe you need classes to learn PHP etc.
You can learn everything you need to know via one or two really good books, coupled with some tutorial websites and most important of all PRACTICE.

Since you need straight up money to get you by on a regular basis, you might want to sell your services.

Can you write articles? You can easily make a few hundred per week with an article writing service. Im sure you have other talents as well that people would pay for.

ummm.... if he had a profitable domain, let alone one valued anywhere near a few grand, I doubt this thread would have been started.

oh yeah - one more quick thing - you def don't need to classes to learn php. i am learning it all off tizag.com and some other simple, easy to follow tutorials.

Your lucky that you are good at face to face sales. This is something that I suck at. There are sales jobs everywhere. You can easily get one if you really wanted.

Hehe, I was offered $30 for one of my domains. Nice thought though. Since I posted this, I actually got a couple of solid leads at work. A couple decent deals and I'll have a few grand. I might also experiment with some link injection campaigns or some other short term money makers.

You're right. If I decide to take classes it'll just be for the credits and the structured learning environment. I have some college credits, I'm 24 now, I wouldn't mind having a degree before I'm 30.

Can you write articles?

Yeah, I've thought about that. I've written for various small newspapers and magazines in the past. I write all of the brochures, ads, sales letters, and promotional materials for my work. I haven't done it because it's not really passive income, but that doesn't mean I'll never try it.

Thanks.

why dont you try some of the arbitrage stuff on aojon's blog the first few months, he posted amazing shit. Honestly, i just went through some fucking quick sales, why cause of my own stupidity and learning from mistakes i made 3 years ago. Dont beat yourself up man.
Start a blog on that keyword that you searched
post articles daily on that topic and keyword,
have someone digg some articles for search engine indexing(or something), exchange links with other people
Join some forums related to that keyword with your keyword on the sign ;)
make this a habit and watch your blog climb to the top of the rankings.
The most frustrating thing about online marketing is that it takes longer than we expect. Its not instant gratification as those pussies on clickbank like to preach. Trust me bro, there are people who dont even have a job, credit sucks and banned from adsense....hehehehe the last part would apply to me. :) but i am not frustrated.

Take everything that you are going through as a learning experience, instead of looking at it as having failed as an internet marketer.
Its funny when you plug in keywords into your adwords campaigns and think, fuck it this is it. I am going to have a shit load of money, bitches, rims cars and walk out of this fucking job.
Human nature.Sit down and write everything you have gone through and dont look at it as failure and instead look at it as learning lessons, laugh at yourself and move on. ;( harder said than done huh. :)

Don't get a degree just to get one. It's pretty much a waste of time if you work for yourself anyway. If you have a good reason that's another story.

Hell, I have a very good corporate IT job and I don't have one.

Scottspfd82,

Don't be so hard on yourself, man. We all work crappy jobs that we hate (I especially hate mine). I make shit for pay. I just keep something better in the back of my mind... you know, that thought of someday working for myself. No boss. No bullshit.

The best part is... we all share that same dream here. And we're all helping each other achieve that dream. :)

Just spend your free time trying to get your online empire going. That's all you can really do. Life has it's ups and downs. We all go broke eventually. Money is evil. It comes and goes. We earn it, we spend it. Be strong and bounce back. Don't fall victim to the trap of giving up.

Once you've given up, you've lost your dream. Yeah, your job might suck, but it's better than no job at all. You might be bouncing rent checks to eat, but fuck it. You're a poker player, so let the chips fall where they may.

No doubt about it... life is hard. All you can do is do the best you can. We all die someday... no one gets out alive. Take risks. My father quit his job and started his own business, and sold that company about 5 years later for millions of dollars. He literally came from nothing (his 6 member family all lived in a one-bedroom apartment when he was growing up), but he made something of himself.

So, I've seen firsthand what hard work and dedication can do. Fate will eventually work in your favor if you're willing to let life take it's course. Don't fight your fate cause you'll never win. Go with the flow and do what feels right at the time.

DON'T GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT LIFE THROWS AT YOU.

Didn't mean to sound like an informercial there. :) Just giving you some words of encouragement.

So, instead of reading this, you should be working hard on your empire. Now, go do it. Every second you spend developing your empire is another second less you'll be down and out. :)

That's pretty solid advice. The only problem is the keyword is a time sensitive pop culture reference, and there's only one product that I think these people would be an easy sale for. I have a feeling by the time I got ranked the buzz would be over, or else I'd do exactly what you suggested.

I think it's a golden keyword because there is absolutely zero competition. I can get cheap ass clicks all day long with it. So, the plan for now is to raise some quick cash and throw it into adwords. I haven't signed up for MSN yet, so I can probably dig up a $50 coupon for that too.

And I never said that I've failed at internet marketing.:D My problem right now is failing as a piano salesman. I'm still in the learning stages here. I think I'm close to getting a feel for what will work and what won't. After I get that figured out I just need some cash to throw at it, which hopefully won't be a problem for too much longer.

it sounds like the term might be copyrighted. you might not get away with it on some engines.

is it something stupid like 'Sanjaya Malakar' - i googled 'american idol clown' for his name lol. there are a few bids

but you're actively working on shit, right? as far as ppc goes, you won't know what works and what doesn't until are spending money.
