need your opinion

ok, i've been looking for a computer for the last week, and i've narrowed my decision down to 2. i want to know from your expertise which would be good for me. i dont do any gaming so right now i'm leaning towards future shop.. but is it a bad idea to buy a computer from there??

the first is from future shop:

HP Pavillion Media Center a1700n DEsktop PC With
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 3800+
1 GB DDR2 Memory - 250 GB SATA Hard Drive - DL 16x DVD Burner with LightScribe
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Graphics - Windows Vista Premium

+ 19" LCD monitor for $799.

the second is from a small computer store, that custom builds computers:

the main parts are:

Motherboard: Asus M2N-E
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (1.86 Ghz)
Ram: 2GB
HD: 200GB
Video Card: GEForce 7300
windows vista

about $950 (no monitor)



My question to you is.. should i be concerned about some of the parts that future shop uses for that computer? And, would I notice a difference in speed between the two, in terms of using the web? is athlong 3800 still really good? I dont do any gaming..
 


man i need a new computer - thats not bad $$ wise - i can't believe how cheap things have gotten over the last 2 years since i bought my last PC...

Hell yeah you should be concerned about the parts used in the custom built machine. When I was in high school I worked in a shop like that and customers were lucky if they got refurb parts in their custom builds. Where I worked, they purposely put in shitty parts that had known issues and then they'd tell customers that they must have done something wrong. Unless you know the people who work there really well or they provide a comprehensive warranty, don't bother buying a PC from a little shop.

As far as which one will serve you best (if all parts were new and under warranty), it doesn't matter if you're just using the Web.
 
yeah i dont need that much ram really.. my real question is.. will there be much difference in speed between the two? will the graphics card make that much difference being that i dont game?
 
Minimum Vista Premium requirements

the first one is definitely the better deal(even though i don't like amd nearly as much as intel). The ram shouldn't cost very much to upgrade anyways.
Are you sure Intel Core 2 Duo (1.86 Ghz) wasn't supposed to say 2.86ghz?

yeah it said 1.86.. it can be upgraded though.
