From all I gathered from the various babies around us (me & my wife don't have one yet) the attitude of the parents plays a big role in that.
In short, laid back parents tend to have fewer problems than nervous, twittery ones.
This is also backed by my experience working with kids in a hospital (worked in surgery ward).
But before people jump on me for this: Yes, some babies do cry a lot, no matter how laid back the parents.
