Jon Leger just released a new search engine that gives stellar search results:

EdiSerps - Better results, less junk.

To be fair, it's using the google custom search platform but Jon says that he's adding a layer of "human wisdom" or some voodoo shit like that on top of the google custom results to do this...

So I ran a bunch of searches, both short & longtail terms, and it's pretty obvious that this shit is pretty good! Some ppl enthusiastically claim is far better than google itself. (Just the quality of serps, not the other offerings of course.) Now all it needs is a good name... EdiSerps is obviously not going to be replacing "google" in the vernacular one day soon no matter how much ppl love it.

I'm still testing it, but I think I'm going to start using it as my primary soon... It's really that good.

I used to think that guy produced decent shit...

... until he spammed my inbox every single f*cken day. Now I won't even look at anything he says.

two things:

1) what's in it for him? There's no ads that I can see, so he's obviously using the data collected on the backend in some way. If he's piggybacking on Google than he's clearly not trying to build a real search engine as he's inherently crippled by that decision. So why build this? The dude isn't hurting for money.

2) His products have all ended up being pure shit in the past. He's good at the WaFo style marketing and it has made him successul, but nothing he's ever done has been that incredible.

I don't get it...why launch this?

also, I am currently inviting others to revel in the irony that is
This extra layer gives a big boost to web sites that have been determined by human beings to be of high quality. It also pushes down (or completely removes) the low quality stuff that the Google software thinks should rank (but human beings know shouldn't).

...this is coming from a guy who made a fuck ton of money from a content spinning application.

To be fair, I made a bunch of money selling scheduled xrumer blasts, and you'd have a hard time finding a stronger advocate today of sensible marketing and content development instead of automated link building.

People mature, they change, they lie whatever. I think his past and his motives are less important than the quality of what he is doing.

If the searches are good, I don't see why it's controversial.

1. I see adsense on the right-hand side, is it not there for you? But I don't have a clue where his long-term goals are with this project... Perhaps he's just having fun.

2. You haven't tried any of his recent stuff, have you? His products have been getting pretty good lately. The things you can do with the latest article wizard API are pretty fantastic, and ArticleBuilder is pretty much a never-ending supply of keyword-rich, copyscape-passing articles that don't read like an indian wrote them... So all in all I'm pretty cool with Jon these days.

i see ads on the right side, so he is monetizing the custom search. Obviously, this is not gonna get any mainstream. Maybe It becomes a default SE for WaFo

hmm... have the google Custom search engines improved?

I tried setting some up, but Google just kept fucking with me.

I bet he paid for it... They offer an option to pay something to remove their ads... So these are likely his own adsense ads on the side of the page and since he's paying they'll "support" him.

Anyone not able to find something difficult with it? It's returning some stellar stuff for me on longtail searches, even pricing info on local products that google won't show me... Very good stuff.

It's ok, but Google is still more useful. Here is an example: Do a search for something like Walmart, Best Buy, Starbucks, McDonalds. It shows you a map on the right side of the closest ones and Ediserps doesn't.

Also, if it's just Google with a different filter or Google with more banned sites or something, that's kind of lame.

They've been noticeably better than google results for me, everytime.

Give some examples where it's better.

I've seen a few where they just removed sites like Answers.com. That usually makes things better, but what if Answers.com is the only page on the Internet that has the answer the user is looking for?

Yeah, look, search for Answers.com in Ediserps, their site doesn't even show up lol.

Edit: Oh, actually the first result is from wikipedia and it grabs the official site link from the wikipedia article I think. That is weird.

"site:answers.com" - No results

its not managable. Add humans to the amount of sites and data on the web today, and you just can't police it. This is why Google is in love with the algo. OK, there manual reviews, but they only go after very high volume keywords or massive spam reports, when they get it to it.

Saying that SERPS can be policed, with todays and potential tomorrow is short sighted. But like you said, perhaps he is just having fun, a break from spaming his list!
